Lots of debuts here...including our very own PiP 2nd gen.

2016 New York Auto Show: green-car preview

There's also mention of the 2017 Highlander Hybrid. No specs are out for either, the 2017 Highlander looks snazzy and is supposed to boast to be more powerful and efficient (even in the gas version).

Not saying they did. Just that it's a different market than it was 4 years ago and I think Toyota really needs to bring it.

Wow , I just bought the original PiP a few days ago !

Gotta think they doubled the EV range ..but with this fickle market and no CA HOV exemption to drive sales it will not be a record setter

This is where the Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in could come in very handy .
If Hyundai manages to price their Plug-in reasonably, Toyota will be forced to do the same !
The Problem with the last Plug-in Prius was the way to high and never justifiable price and of course the too limited ev-range .
Yes it had a bigger battery than the normal Prius, but even at the time it was launched, there was absolutely no justification for that kind of price difference !

perhaps in europe, but not here. at least you still have reasonably high petrol incentive.

hyundai won't have much impact here, at least in the short run. of course, if they sell a few thousand a month, a few here will hail it a victory.

difficult time here, hard to think what toyota could do to make a real impact, other than give them away like everyone else, and even that isn't working.

PR stunt! just drive the car up on stage over the inductive wireless charger and say: it's charging! :)

"We've listed this one as a question mark because Toyota hasn't actually confirmed that what it calls "the next mechanical marvel in the Prius lineup" will be the anticipated plug-in hybrid version."

So far all we know for sure is that Toyota is introducing a new set of taillights at this show.

I like the wireless charging idea so please sell this car and maybe I get one off lease in 3 years (if bisco likes his PiP2)

A few thousand a month will probably be what the new Prius PHEV will sell.

Haha! I'm so wanting to discuss it here.

    Merged.

It has a charging port, rear passenger side. Maybe it would do both depending on the situation!

Those taillights are so much better looking than the ones on the non-plug-in.

Thought you were commenting on the Ioniq PHEV back there.

I'd call selling in the numbers of the Volt and Leaf a success for the Prius PHEV. Same for the Ioniq.

Well the teaser image looks promising (and they managed to keep it under wraps). Looks like the 3rd brake light will partially illuminate and fade towards the edge of the rear spoiler. It doesn't look like a photoshopped red like the 4G Prius reveal when it *appeared* to have a full width light when it was really a red car instead. This one looks to have a clear or red plastic/acrylic lip.

Toyota did mess up its first shot royally. There is no denying it as I am experiencing it first hand...
