2nd Gen Prius SKS Diagrams

    Hey all! Following up my recent mods, I now want to install the keyless entry and start system for my 2008 most base model Prius. I am looking for diagrams, any wiring diagrams, manuals, documentation, part numbers- anything subject related. I was told and saw others being told, that installing an SKS into a base model Prius is impossible. I am here to prove everyone wrong, and perhaps, create a new mod type for the Prius. I am planning on going to junkyards and pulling all those ECUs and oscillators out of wrecked Prii, with the harnesses of course. I need to figure out what components make up the SKS system, and the differeces between the wiring on a regular base Prius and one with SKS.

    Please let me help figure this out. Throw in anything you have on the subject. I am 99% sure it's doable, no matter what anyone says!

    Anton I've done a whole bunch of work in Apex North Carolina You can come down here to my house in Orange county and there's a whole SKS car that's completely intact from what you want all the SKS computers door buttons switches everything sitting in the car untouched the door panels are off the car it's ready for you to come play with and have at it because what you're trying to do is an electrical nightmare but yeah it's doable but you want to put all your time and energy into something like that wow that is a strange one. But just get in touch through Messenger or whatever I'm on Borland road and 27243 I'm 40 minutes from you at best The SKS car I believe I have maybe one remote left that goes with that system all the serial numbers and labels are intact etc so on and so forth I am trying to get this car to the junkyard say after the new year so make a plan or don't I guess Good luck.

    Yes unfortunately the old days of three full repair manuals over 200 pages each is no longer everything is strictly online and strictly digital Man that was really something back in the day to have the Toyota Supra set of manuals still have them today and Ma 67 cars . Today you get nothing but tablet

    A) :

    Buy a donor SKS car and bring it to your house.

    Completely remove the interiors from both cars.

    Swap parts as needed from the SKS car to yours until it all works.

    I would think that you would need major wiring harnesses, including main body, dash, front doors and tailgate. At least the hybrid control and certification ecu's (cert ecu is mounted on the front of the HVAC housing facing the firewall - have to pull the instrument panel). Possibly BCM. Also need functional SKS fobs (or the ability to program new ones - "reseed" the cert ecu). All transponders and antennae and other bits.

    B) :

    Buy a SKS car and drive that one.

    One ECU (oscillator) inside each front door. Front door handles.
    One ECU ("room oscillator") inside the center console
    One ECU in the spare tire compartment
    Antenna inside the rear bumper cover
    Hatch trim panel above license plate
    Certification ECU, located just under the dashboard safety pad on the driver side (NOT on the front of the HVAC housing facing the firewall)
    Door control receiver ECU, driver side C-pillar (in non SKS cars, this ECU is a different part and the two are not compatible)

    2 ECUs may need to be reconfigured or replaced, not sure:
    Body ECU
    Transponder Key ECU/ID Code Box (mounted on the front of the HVAC housing facing the firewall)

    Wiring harnesses that are missing the wiring for the SKS components:
    - Front doors
    - Dashboard (instrument panel wire)
    - Hatch door
    The main body harness DOES have the SKS wiring included.

    In some cases it may be easier to add new wiring rather than replace the harness.

    With minor exceptions the entire interior will need to be disassembled, probably including the air conditioner.

    To be precise, these are not ECUs. More akin to radio transmitters. As you noted in parentheses, these are called oscillators and are named as such in the parts diagram.

    He got almost every bit of this today took it out of the car there may be one or two pieces he might have forgotten I do not know yet We removed all the door harnesses from the two front doors all the oscillators and all of that so you're saying the white box with the magenta writing in the left side of the trunk when standing in front of the trunk needs to go to I think it says 134 megahertz on it I was wondering about that I thought that went to the TPMS sensors or something but I didn't look at any diagram I just know the one you're talking about if that's it just ahead of the battery safety plug correct? He's going to probably have to come back when he starts making the swap to look at stuff My idea why not just buy a proxy alarm system like Clifford and others made. Some of those things came with really nice remotes and all of that nonsense for 250 bucks or something only about four or five connections need be made especially to a car that already has sensors that you can probably speak to and what have you but hey some people have plenty of time.

    Was too tired last night to write anything here lol.

    On 9/21/2023, I met up with @Tombukt2 on his property, where he had like 5 or more Prii! To say from the start, he's a remarkable man, and has helped and guided me through the entire process. We spent about 3 hours pulling at his old part-out 2005 Prius into pieces. First came the Certification ECU, then all the oscillators. We couldn't find the room oscillators and I think I forgot to grab an oscillator from the rear hatch, but that's okay, I'm probably gonna be back at his place son for more parts. I might need to also grab a body ECU and perhaps, but hopefully not, the main hybrid ECU. The reason for that, is that the SKS system checks 3 codes- key ID, transponder ID, and so called S code. The S code is written in the ECU. Maybe I can reprogram my original ECU to correspond to the fob.

    The process basically involved finding the part from the list of the elements of the SKS system, trace back where it plugs into. If the corresponding plug is not present in my car, we had to pull the harness out. We removed the harness from both doors, along with handles and oscillators. Lots of work.

    The Certificastion ECU has it's own connector, and I suspect that it might not be present in my harness. This is no big deal though, after referencing the troubleshooting manual diagrams, it seems like the certificaion ECU is nothing but a central "brain", which takes the readings from the SKS system components (oscillators, amplifiers, immobilizer, etc), and makes a decision to send or not to send a "GO" signal to the ECU to start the car. So it should, theoretically, have a bunch of inputs and just a few outputs. Theoretically, it should be possible to just connect all corresponding elements to the correct pins, with a DIY harness, and tap that "GO" signal into the locking and immobilizer system.

    Overall, this proejct is slowly coming along, I am currently in the research stage. I found a whole 500 page wiring diagram manual for this car, along with some schematics and repair manuals. I will be attatching those here. Big BIG thanks to @Tombukt2 again for letting me use his Prius for parts and sharing his expertise with me, while also helping to take apart the car.

    Glad to see that we got pretty much all the elements from your list pulled out already. I was surprised to find out that the body harness had the necessary plugs, but the main harness didn't. I think there's definitely room for some custom work. Thank you for your contribution!
