Thanks OP for this one. I just went to Home Depot and picked up 4 for 80 cents each. Good to go! My second mod after taking off the covers!

I just took off my hubcaps and put on those center pieces. Looks way better and was a cinch. Rims definitley needed a bit of cleaning though. Your a genius.

Our second gen 08' Prius was a base model that came with, "No trim rings". If it was an air flow issue, they would have put them on our stripped base model prius, don't ya think?

Now the 3rd gen prius base model does have the trim rings.

Funny thing is that when we bought the 08', I noticed the wheels looked different from all the others and mentioned it to the salesman. He said it must be an option wheel and they are probably gonna charge you more for them wheels. I later found out all prius's had the same wheels but looked different with the trim rings, except of course the touring model.

I'm loving our 2010 3rd Gen Blizzard white solar package!
Gotta run to Home depot to get me some electrician caps!:p

Way awesome! I grazed a curb after work today and the RF hubcap cracked. Initially crestfallen (1st ding on my 2-month-old Pri), I had a feeling I would find a solution here. Little did I know I would uncover such a great workaround. This weekend, I go to my local big box, and the hubcaps come off.

    Thanks, OP!

It would be a good idea to shoot some clear coat on those Lowes caps. The original finish on most of them is very thin. They are still a great idea though.:thumb:

    Thanks!!!
    It really works.
I bought a set(4) of 1-1/2"($4.10) and Aluminum color spray at OSH.
Little bit expensive than Home Depot. (My home depot has only 3.)

Wooden finishing plugs also fit, for that retro look. And no corrosion worries :_>

Nice Find!! I've had my Prius since Sunday and ripped those covers off right when I saw this post. I bought 4 at Lowes for $.93 and a can of no rust textured metalic paint. Total cost $11. Im not a big fan of chrome. Here's how it looks. The paint blends in with the breaks...

Thanks! I wanted a textured look and have them blend in as much as possible...

My 09 came with wheel center caps which was a surprise to me initially. I laugh because I pulled into Home Depot to purchase the 1 1/2 in. and noticed my center caps as I got out of the car. Were there some years or models which have the center caps as standard equipment?

AFAIK, The years/models that have the center of the wheel exposed.

Did you have wheel covers that originally hid your center caps?

No, I have the standard plastic outer wheel rim covers (if this is what you are referring to). My center caps have the Toyota logo and are not flat. I will try to take photos and post. I am assuming others have these also.

Yours are probably the caps I used when I took the fugly full cover 5 spoke caps off my Gen III Model II wheels.

I suspect you had them stock on your Gen II because your outer rim covers didn't cover the center of the wheel.

It was nice of Toyota to keep the same center hole on the 15 inch Gen III wheels.

It would be interesting to know what the Gen III 15 inch wheels were originally intended for. They don't look like they were designed to be hidden behind a cheezy plastic wheel cover like they are on the Gen III 15 inch wheels.

Would you be kind enough to share with us the UPC code of the paint that you used?
