Here are my wheels with painted caps($4) and 3D toyota emblems from ebay($10). I also painted the calipers black($5). I think it looks great.

That looks RAD, great job. How come I can't find those 3D emblems on ebay? Got a link?

well, although the center cap at 3bucks is great i elected to pay the $15 each for the authentic toyota autographed center cap. i cannot verify this but my understanding is that each cap is individually handcrafted by a small family in japan that happens IMG_0082.JPG to be blind. each cap takes 3 to 4 weeks to shape and the income from them provides the only food that the family may have for weeks on end. so.... while your idea is terrific i feel vindicated in the almost saintly donation that i have made to this poor struggling family living just outside of the destroyed nuclear facility.

Did you have to paint the caps black or were they already black?

    Hey guys !

My first post on this forum, we got our 2012 Prius liftback a couple of weeks ago, we love it !

This message is specific for my fellow Canadians, I just stopped by Home Depot to get the knockout seals aka centre caps for our wheel cover-less cars :)

My local store is selling them in pairs for $1.99 and the barcode (aka item # on my bill) is: 622538172426.

They are not stamped and they look great !

Cheers to all and another BIG thanks to theloop82, very much appreciated !

I will try this method rather than $10 a piece (nonOEM)...my wheels are black so I will deck them with carbon fiber designed sticker/wrap.

(I have just got my Prius Gen III, so I am a newbie to this forum) - I was looking for information on the wheel caps when I came across "theloop82's post (thank you! BTW)...I thought that I should add my result to this awesome post.

    Materials:
    1) 1 1/2" Knockout seals ($0.97/each at Home Depot)
    2) Raised lettering stickers ($7-13 at Micheal's)
    3) Carbon Fiber Stickers from other projects (amazon $16 for 24"x12")

PS: The caps as they are matched the lug nuts (nice), painted gloss black matched wheels (nice), so all this was just personal preference.

PSS: You do need to be patient and bend the little teeth one by one, and take your time with trial and error for a perfect fit otherwise you will need a rubber mallet to ease the caps in when their teeth are over-bent (not big deal). materials.jpg fitting.jpg result.jpg

2010-2011 had silver alloys under the old style hubcaps. You guys all got the cool bumpers, better taillights and murdered-out wheels. I love that this thread still lives though! I took the caps off a few weeks ago when I was washing the car and found no corrosion issues or any rust on the untreated caps. I dig all the customization that people have came up!

    Thanks for the tip,
New Prius owner here and I just installed the 1 1/2 knockouts from my local home depot. I used black appliance epoxy to finish them off. The epoxy is a decent color match for the black rims and fills the stamping in the knockout after 2 applications. The best part is that you don't have to clearcoat and it matches the gloss of the rim. Here is the epoxy I used and I will try to get pictures up of the rims soon.

I used the same epoxy and it turned out great.

I was just at Home Depot and found the plugs....I ended up getting some gray primer and the Rust O Leum automotive gloss black spray paint...my question is, with the paint you used, did you have to sand the caps. prime them and then paint or just you JUST use the appliance epoxy? Any reason why you couldn't use the same paint on the lug nuts too?

I went ahead and did mine. I wanted a chrome center cap so I didn't paint mine. I just bent the tabs and stuck 'em on. Hopefully they won't rust. If I have to take them off, I'll probably have to drill them out. They seem to be stuck pretty well.
