    I hope people aren't driving around needlessly just to make a number on a chart.

    Welcome to my world. A world where a six-mile, 20 minute commute isn't really enough to get the most out of the car. My last tank was my first where the MFD read over 40MPG, and it was also the first time the temperature was over 40º for more than a few hours at a time.

    To be honest, I traded up from a car that routinely got less than 20MPG in everyday use. If I'm getting 40 in the Prius, it's still twice as good as what I got before.

    I am lucky in that I get to drive sometimes for work. (today- 75 miles each way!)
    Also this part of jersey is not too congested.
    Otherwise, my favorite place to eat is about 35 miles away so I alway have an excuse for a ride when I have time! :rolleyes:

    Very belated Edit: He may have some constructive/positive posts after all, but they are few and far between. Decided not to put this in a new post in hopes he might avoid abrasive posts.

    What was your mpg on the same commute with a different vehicle? Chances are it was worse than it's estimates too. My wife has a five minute commute and will get anywhere from low 30s to the 40s for her trips in the Prius. The other vehicle (a V6 4dr) gets about 15 on same commute. I hate seeing her drop the mileage, but it is much much better than the other vehicle. As someone has already mentioned this, it is just something to keep in mind. Pumping up the tires at least some won't hurt, I would play with higher psi's until you find a good balance of comfort and efficiency.

    Gee, you don't pay much attention, do you?

    Oh, well.

    I was dead serious: why buy a Prius and then waste the fuel/carbon savings on driving 70 miles round trip JUST to eat a meal? Certainly if one is serious about saving gas and carbon, one could find a good restaurant closer to home.

    Again, your point is fair, but the way you word it is condescending, rude and self-rightous. You can make your same, legitimate, point in a polite friendly manner. This is the point that the, oh dozen or so people who've made complaints about your posts have made and that I've personally told you to pay attention to. If you can't conduct yourself in a polite civil manner here then you need to go somewhere who'll tolerate it or you'll be banned...it's just that simple.
