    Hi guys

any one knows the type of communication between the battery smart unit and HV control module?
as described by the manual it is a sort of serial communication and I'm sure it is not CAN.

the waveform of the signals in the attached photo
Waveform 14 (communication signal from battery smart unit to power management control ECU (HV CPU))
    Waveform 15 (CAN communication signal)
any one can distinguish its protocol or name ,,,anything please help.

That's another differential voltage signal. If it's not CAN it's probably RS-485 (what we use in our products).

There's no communication protocol standard for RS-485 like there is for CAN. This would be proprietary.

    thanks for replay,

is RS-485 capable of communicating through 3-4 meters long two wires?

Yes, that can easily be done by RS-485 at the highest baud rate. If I recall, 38.4Kbaud is good for around 200-500 meters. Make sure your line is terminated (120 ohm) when you patch into it.

thanks dude I will try to study the RS-485 , but i measured the resistance between the two pins of the battery smart unit and the result was a large value which i can't remember right now

The high resistance (Mohm range?) is probably circuit protection and/or active termination.

You might want to reach out to developers for Dr. Prius/aka: priusapp.com and also Hybrid Assistant App... They've put a great number of hours into processing signals like this and may be able to help focus your efforts a bit.

If you explain what you're trying to do we might be more helpful.

By the way, don't overlook the multiplex communication section in the Gen 3 New Car Features manual, available on techinfo, which will describe the various different networking technologies used in the car, their topologies, wire specs, limitations, etc. Seems like pretty much all the information you'd be looking for (short of actual on-the-wire protocol details; it doesn't get to that level).

They process signal for CAN layers but I need to process signal from smart ECU directly.

I need to get HV smart unit live data, analyze it , and see how I can manipulate with the HV system.

off-course taking care with hazards that could happen when screwing with the system.

and I may also use the smart unit for multiple applications as measuring device.

Dr. Prius and Hybrid Assistant apps may do only CAN layer data as you say... But maybe they do more than that?

As in you clearly get ECU smart unit live data like: temp, voltage, resistance, amps both in and out. And if you use a super fast Veepeak OBD2 the sample rate is so high, I saw it once even record a 159 amp surge on the HV's 120 amp circuit.

What additional data beyond this are you looking for?

what you'r saying is correct, but I need to collect data while the smart unit is pulled out off the car and use it individually, and also get it before it goes to hybrid control unit .

The Com wires you're talking about could be sending the raw/averaged sensor values at a higher speed than CAN.

do you have a link for the manual that you're referring? my frustrating search ended with nothing. maybe this manual will be a starting point and will give me a clue about this type of communication.

In that case I'm sure you'll want to spend $15K on the system that Nuvant makes :) Hybrid battery reconditioning|repair|rebuild tools | NuVant

it is 10 times less than the speed of CAN configuration used in Prius network as per the above picture which is 500 kbps.
