Hmm! That would be a delay of 1 year though. 4th gen was supposed to debut last fall then released early this year...6 month delay means a possible reveal this spring or probably summer then release this fall

My understanding is the model year 2016 Prius will be released to the public near the end of calendar year 2015.

Whoever created this thread, almost surely thought the 4th generation Prius would be a model year 2015. Not so, because of the delay. That suggest the thread title is still acceptable, but with a different implication than originally intended.

Google Greencarreports or automotive news article stating 4th Gen production pushed back to December 2015 .
Put in time on the boat, we're looking at probably Jan 2016 first deliveries.

Oh. Well either way, it's a 2016 model year, no?

Umm, I don't think it would've debut last Fall. That's a bit early, even if it was a 2015 MY. (That and those of us that have been around, already knew it would be a 2016 based on an educated guess of the Prius' life cycle so far. Those speculating 2015 MY were basing it on the industry "standard" of a 5-year life cycle for a mainstream car).

Anyway, I like @cycledrum's timeline. That makes sense to me based on rumours and reports so far.

There has just been entirely too much miss-information circulated to venture any credible guess about the G4. I'm not sure I even believe the statement that the "big guy" sent the designers back to the drawing board. Had he not seen sketches, or mock-ups? Any administrative head that has the final "go or no go" authority, is not going to wait until the final pre-production design to have the first look-see. Even the reported six month delay sounds fishy to me. You cannot redesign, work out all the details, correct fit and finish, update the suppliers, and test a new design in 6 months, or even a year. Now if the rumors were that the performance was not meeting expectations, or the battery chemistry was not quite resolved, I could believe that, because they are commensurate with the testing phase, which logically would occur closer to the final deign and continue right up to introduction.

I think we would all agree, regardless of what the truth is, it does not appear to bode well for Toyota, and I certainly would not be interested in buying an early copy, given the rumors that we have heard. Just my opinion.

You obviously don't work for a large corporation.

I'll concede that you may be right. Perhaps, that is Toyota's problem with the G4 if upper management was not involved until near the end of the final design development phase. Obviously, we have insufficient information about that subject to come to any conclusions.

Actually, I am now retired, but I did work for a very large organization, and was always involved in product developments. To do otherwise, is irresponsible IMHO.

I do think that Toyota owes us at least a sneak peek of what we are to expect from the all new 2016 Prius .
I hope this will happen at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show !

In general, I really hope it doesn't look like this concept. However, it just occurred to me that the G4 might have a rounded, wraparound liftback window to improve visibility. That would be nice.

I can assure you there will be no sneak peak or information available on the 4th Gen Prius this month (Detroit auto show)

There are a lot of enthusiasts that would buy that FT-B like Prius if it got 60 MPG combined

I would buy it because it offends people, and gets great mpg.

I refuse to get upset about the images above. I have more confidence in Toyota that they will do better.

The only thing I will say regarding needing "a little more work," as one writer said. My feeling is it needs a hell of a lot more work.
