I am a new owner of a 2015 Prius Two!

    1) 5,000-mile services: Do you follow the maintenance booklet, getting services every 5,000 miles? If not, how often do you get it serviced? Do you go to a Prius service shop or your own mechanic?

    2) Oil changes: Is it still true in more recent models that Prii are due for an oil change every 7,500 miles or so? That is the case for my father's 2005, but I'm wondering if that's changed.

When I got my 2015 Prius Two, it had 47,000 miles on it. Now it has 49,237. About 900 miles ago or so, I saw a "Maintenance required soon" message on my HSI, which then turned into a permanent message. Originally, the dealer said the first oil change was free and set me up for an appointment in November. So I'm wondering what this maintenance notice is about, since I've only put on about 2,500 miles since I bought it. Is it referring to the upcoming 50,000-mile service? If so, why would it pester me in September about something I wouldn't need until November? Or does it sense something wrong and is telling me I need to bring it in?

    Thank you,

    Mary

The light comes on 5000 mikes from when it was last reset. Likely some maintenance checks were done early so the light comes on sooner. Tire rotation is recommended every 5000 miles and oil & filter changes every 10K miles. The maintenance guide is available online.

If you fill with 0W-20 oil, you can go 10,000 miles. If not, then 5,000 miles. You should have "0W-20" printed on your oil fill cap. You can create an account at the MyToyota website and get PDF versions of the manuals, including the Warranty and Service guide which covers the maintenance schedule.

Your 2015 is suppose to get an oil change every 10k mi. The light still comes on at 5k mi though. I just reset the light myself when it comes on at 5k. mi. When it comes on the second time then I get an oil change. The 2005 is suppose to get an oil change every 5k.mi,
