shouldn't it be everything in the maintenance schedule? (unless you do the rest yourself)

Yes - they rotate wheels/tires, inspect/verify/lubricate several systems as per schedule, top off all fluids, etc. Overall very verbose but quick to check/perform. Dealers run through these things quickly unless they see an opportunity to capitalize on something; ie: “you may want to consider doing brakes on your next visit.”

and at 15k and multiples, you have cabin filter. and air filter every 30k.

still, around here, a 5k service is over $100.

Yes, both filters are being replaced on my next visit.

Well, my next service will encompass rotation, oil change, both filters, plus whatever else they inspect. Since I’ve paid $60 in the past for oil change and rotation, my guess would be that adding the two filter replacements will bring it closer to $100 as you mentioned before, though I think I can get it done for $80-90. I’ll report back, but that won’t be for a while since I just had my service performed.

That’s quite high for a non-luxury non-sport car. Dealers have an incredibly high margin on most services they perform. I rarely ever pay asking price - they tend to be lenient with informed/automotive savvy customers because 1) less margin business is better than no business at all, and 2) for every informed customer there are tens of “I have no idea what you’re saying, take my money” customers.

As evidenced by what indicator? Fuel tank fill and doing the math from the gallons and miles, or the dash display?

There is no "adjust" on disc brakes, and they wouldn't touch the parking brake adjustment unless you were paying them to do so.

No. They likely never even looked at the brakes.

    - by a reset dash display upon fill up. Even if this were to be inaccurate, all things being equal, what would explain the difference?

    - good to know that there’s nothing to adjust; someone had suggested that on a different thread. Coming from a lengthy history of sports cars and this being my first hybrid, I wasn’t sure if there was any validity to “brake adjustments” since the car uses braking as part of it’s regenerative system. Thanks for clarifying this.

    - if they likely didn’t look at the brakes, what could possibly explain the sudden decrease in mpg’s from a simple tire rotation service? That’s the answer I’m after.

Nothing they did. I expect what you are seeing is normal variations from day to day. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on a small bit of data from the dashboard display, see what the whole tank produces.

If the charging system is putting out 13.5 to 14 V, the 12V battery will charge very quickly and in the big scheme of things, this battery holds very little energy. Not enough to affect the indicated mpg to this extent.

Same tires, same pressures, you won't see any impact on fuel economy from rotating them.

don't know anything about those tires, i wonder if they have to break in a bit in their new positions

Precisely my point - however, there IS a change. I’ve driven on these tires since I purchased the car, and have had multiple tire rotations since then, none of them yielding a decrease in mpg, or at least not this noticeable. My driving style hasn’t changed and neither has my driving routine. I find it interesting.

And sure, the dash monitor is most likely inaccurate, but it is also the same tool I’ve been going by - so it’s a constant, not a variable.

Just as random examples - here are long term fuel economy graphs from a few cars I have owned. They rarely get the same mileage two tanks in a row (different seasons, different environmental conditions within a season, phase of the moon, wind, etc.)
