I have a c3 with the touch screen. I stored a sub channel 2 of an HD radio station and for some reason the volume is much lower on it than on the primary HD stations. I turn it up loud and noticed that the radio goes to "max volume" after 62. 62?! Really? Some engineer or designer was sitting around and said to him/her self - let's have a range from 1 to 62; not 60, but exactly 62. I think they had a sense of humor because there certainly couldn't be any logic behind 62. :)

It was like that on my JBL in my '07 and on my Gen III. I've never figured that out either... I think technically it's 63 because if you turn it one notch past 62 it says MAX.

2 to the 6th is 64, perhaps it is a binary 'even' number. 00100000

If the radio volume goes from zero through 62 to MAX, then that's exactly 64 steps, so perhaps you're right. But I think you need an extra zero at the end for your binary number to be 64 decimal - 01000000!

62? Isn't its square root 8 something or am I confusing it with another number?

Yes... though in this case the range being suggested was 000000 (0) to 111111 (63).

    Agreed
Agreed; but my point was that Jimbo's 00100000 is 32, not 64.

  8. Dang, I read the title and was expecting another "my mpg" thread. Instead, here we are talking about 2^6 = 64

Okay. So we have an incredibly technically advanced vehicle, and the theory behind the volume having 64 choices is based on binary. I'll take that answer! It makes the most sense to me...

It may be true that it's based on binary, but, and I hope I don't offend by saying this, sounds like the engineers are running the place. :D

I have a t-shirt with that binary joke on it. :)

I'm assuming that "10" is binary for the number 2? Regardless, I don't know anything about it but the t shirt was quite amusing.
