[IMG]Out of the 115k that signed up that's not as many as I expected. But considering the web site issues and actual "put your money where your mouth is" aspect, not too bad for a few hours.

wow, I would have though it would have been much higher, as $99 is not that much to reserve your place in history :)

They still have until mid-may for the hand raisers, so let's see what the final # is before it's opened to the public

Yeah, I was truly expecting to see astronomical figures like 100,000 pre-orders or something. But then again, most people I know aren't even familiar with the car. When I told people I had pre-ordered a Nissan Leaf they were like, "What is that?" So there isn't all that much awareness of them yet.

Do we have anything to compare with, such as other hotly anticipated vehicles that were available for pre-order in the past?

I thought we might see 25k or so with the pre-sale/deposit interest.

Nissan wants 10K orders by December. Shouldn't be a problem ...

Me too. I figured 20k, based on the Japanese percentage of pre-orders vs interested parties. Still, as long as ~6700 meets with Nissan's initial expectations!

you would have thought with the millions Nissan spent on CBS for those Leaf commercials, it would have more interest.

I, too, expected more orders. Apparently a lot of those 115,000 or 117,000 people who signed up for the mailing list either just were curious, or are interested in the car but intend to wait a year; or decided that with availability only in 5 states until late 2011 it was just too early.

Evan, how many people have made a $5,000 deposit on a Tesla Model S?

Thanks, Evan. Showing that a lot of people are willing to put a lot of money now on an EV that's not expected for a few years yet. So it's no surprise that nearly 2,000 people outside the initial launch markets were willing to put $99 on the reservation of a Leaf, expected nation-wide at the end of 2011.

Hey, I wonder how many are the same folks, hedging their Tesla bet with a reservation on a Leaf. Someone who'd put down $5,000 on an S would think nothing of putting another $99 on a Leaf, especially when it's refundable.

daniel, I bet ALL 2000 Tesla depositors have put down their $99 deposit on the Leaf, just a hunch, but probably pretty accurate, seeing how things are going with Aptera, and Tesla is still 2 years out. They are probably a full 1/3 of all of the deposits :)

I suspect some of the reservations are just trying to a spot and sell it later for scalping.
For $99, it is a cheap investment.

I don't think so, maybe a few dozen of us have, but Model S buyer's can afford a $60k range car and are not going to be interested in something, for the most part, like a smallish Nissan...pretty different markets.

evan, many who can afford the 60K car are also very impatient, those types may settle for an EV, ANY EV, rather than wait another year or more.
