90k Maintenance Required Soon , Checklist

    Got the maintenance message popping up. Did a few maintenances around 89,500 miles or so. Just posting to see what you guys think , based on this check list am I good to just close this ?

    Few months ago ( ~88k miles ) I started off by calling the dealer , asked them from a quote and what the 90k service included. He listed a bunch of stuff I knew I was completely capable of doing.

    So around maybe 89,500 miles
    - I had the tires replaced ( just because I like new tires )
    - motor oil and filter replaced ( with Toyota brand )
    - and the engine air filter replaced.
    - frequently test for steering issues.
    - I've been checking the tires for irregular balding
    - replaced the 12v battery when I bought the car because it was dying ( maybe around 83k )
    - last I think the front suspension was checked by a body shop too ... had a front end fender bender soon after I bought the car


    Just wondering if i'm pretty much good to go and just reset the maintenance light?
    .. I've also been thinking ill just bring it to have the brakes pads done and check the alignment
    most likely doesn't need it but I like how new brake pads feel

    anyways thanks for any suggestions you guys might have,

    If he's on the level, he's just reading from the Toyota USA Warranty and Maintenance Booklet. And doing that for yourself is a much safer approach, lol.

    (If you're missing that booklet you can download pdf. One source is Toyota Tech info, look under the "manuals" tab.)

    Extras I would consider:

    1. Change the transaxle fluid. Toyota USA makes not mention of this in the schedule. Best to stick with Toyota ATF WS fluid.
    2. Change the brake fluid.Toyota USA makes not mention of this in the schedule. Toyota Canada says tri-yearly or 48K kms, whichever comes first.
    3. Inspect the brakes, a full inspection. Toyota USA recommends tri-yearly or 30K miles, whichever comes first.
    4. Inspect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation pipe. This is one section of the EGR circuit that is readily accessible, will give you an idea what the rest is like. Toyota does not include EGR inspection and/or cleaning, but has acknowledge it can clog up in some Warranty Enhancement Program notifications. They all clog btw, and this will cause the engine to run hot, no bad things.
    5. Clean the intake manifold and install an Oil Catch Can.

    Check the 12 volt too: age, at-rest voltage, and CCA if you can manage.

    transaxle fluid i'm not familiar with .. is that just on the transmission crankcase?
    I don't have a service manual just the few that comes from the dealer... not sure if it shows how to replace transmission fluid or transaxle fluid.

    as for the brakes i'll prob just get new pads from a mechanic and they can also check and do the fluid.

    and for the EGR pipe inspection and oil catch can ... the egr seems like easy and good to check. i'm not sure I need the oil catch can though. Im not really interested in installing extra things atm. Might be good for someone else reading the thread though!.


    okay, I've already changed the 12v battery like 6 months ago. with a new Toyota brand battery so its prob fine.

    welcome!
    tranny fluid is just a drain and fill. two plugs on the side. should be around a hundred bucks to have someone do it. lots of threads here, and youtube videos. check out @NutzAboutBolts.

    you should have gotten a maintenance schedule with the car.

    egr 'circuit' is important at your mileage, head gaskets blow when their clogged $$$$$

    lube the caliper slide pins while you're in there. cabin filter?

    ohhh nutz and boltz .. yeah I watched his video when I first bought the car to do the oil change.
    okay ill look into the egr circuit.

    the first one looks like alot more work... for something that might not even need to be cleaned

    is it this one ?

    it's a crummy job, but someone has to do it. dealer gets over a grand. it's all labor. some folks have purchased a used one on eBay or salvage so they can just swap them out and take time cleaning the original
