    Why does unintended acceleration ONLY happen in America? Home of GM and frivolous litigation :)

    There are NO news stories here or elsewhere in the World about it and millions of similar Toyota cars are sold here. What gives?

    We may be the home of GM, but the first time I remember any unintended acceleration stories popping up involved Audis.

    One of the dead people is a California Highway Patrol officer. Pretty sure he knows how to stop a car, shift to neutral, et cetera. Nevertheless this skilled & trained drive could not stop the car & four family members were killed (including a child that nobody sheds a tear for).

    One of the dead people had no floor mats, so Toyota trying to blame mats was silly. But then car corporations are more-and-more acting like GM: deny deny deny. (Toyota also lost a lawsuit wherein their engines gelled with oil, and they voided warranties, even when cstomers had oil change records. Too bad one of those customers was a lawyer & she immediately started collecting data to file a class-action lawsuit.)

    Saab and other European brands may have gotten caught up in it. The pedal placement was probably their norm.

    Eventually, VAG started programming the cars so you couldn't accelerate with the brake pedal pressed.
