My wife dearly loves our dogs but Thursday, the beagle found and 'ate' my wallet. Most of the cards now have dog tooth prints on the magnetic strip and two $20 bills had doggie nibbles along the bottom. But as we were driving out of town, discussing what happened, by gentle wife of 37 years announced:

"That is a spanking offense." (the dog had also bitten her purse strap nearly in half . . . it later broke)

Of course we're not going to spank the dog . . . too much time had passed. But I did order a kevlar wallet and will soon see what is available in the local sporting goods stores.

Your wife didn't spank you, for leaving your wallet where the dog could get it? Humans usually have better short-term memory than dogs, so the punishment should still be effective. ;)

If that's what it takes to get spanked by one's wife...buy cheap Velcro wallets, and leave them out more often. :D

My dog has a nasty habit of foraging through the garbage and leaving it scattered about. She figured out how to open up flip-top waste baskets around the house, so we don't throw anything that had contact with food in those. (i.e. wrappers, napkins, etc.) My buddy had a dog that did the same thing and he made me a custom cabinet for the kitchen that has a standard kitchen waste basket that tilts forward when you pull open the front. The dog hasn't yet figured out how to open that.

I would have just sprinkled a little cayenne pepper into the can every now and then. :D

Sprinkling some black pepper in with the trash should stop that behavior fairly quickly.
A real stubborn case might require red pepper instead.
And if you think that is mean.......sometime there might be something poisonous in there and the dog might DIE. Even chocolate.

As for the wallet chewing dog, he might need something ELSE to chew on instead.
But some dogs will just chew anything and everything.
