a Steering issue in gen 4th 2016

    Hi All.

    I'm one of the owners driving the Prius 4th in Korea.
    So, I don't speak English well because I am not an English speaking person.
    If you find the wrong grammar, please understand me.


    For the Prius owners in Korea, the steering wheel issue is a hot topic.

    Vehicles that have been shipped from June to September in 2016 are producing noise that is intertwined when the steering wheel is operated.

    We call this sound a rat sound. Because it sounds like a rat crying.

    Some of the owners of cars with this issue is complaining that the steering is not working properly.

    Currently, Korean dealers are not able to solve this problem.


    Are there any people who are worried about the same issue here?

    I have not heard others describe this problem.
    I received my Prius in October 2016 as a 2017 model and I do not have this issue.

    Yes, this seems similar to my problem where it sounds like some small animal or bird making a weird squeaking noise behind the dashboard. It hasn't happened in a week though!

    I just had my brakes squeak a little this morning. The car sat all weekend with the parking brake on & the temperature this morning was right at freezing. This was not steering related, though.

    I read your post regarding this issue a few days ago.
    Additionally, I informed other prius owners in korea about your post that it was written regarding this issue.

    I suspect our issue and your issue are the same.

    Also, I'm collecting some movie clips that shooted when this issue occurred these days.
    Because, I will upload this clips on Youtube for response of Toyoya regarding this issue.

    I 'm in Japan. Recently my steering wheel started to make noise when I turn left or right. It's like something rubbed under the steering plastic hood. I went to dealer and they told me it caused by a cable inside. So they ordered a new cable for me and going to replace the old one.
    Now I 'm not sure if the problem will be solved or not, maybe update later.

    Yes. I also known about the repair process as you received service from your dealer.

    Is the cable a part of assembled parts for airbag in the steering wheel?
    Because, there is a owner received service same as you recived in korea.

    If you don't mind, please explain more detail about you received service.

    I think he was asking because all those seeing the issues in this thread are RHD cars. There could very well me manufacturing differences in the vehicles. We know available options vary depending on country.

    Thank you for your advise.

    As you can see, according to above replies, there are some of the people experienced similar issue in UK and Japan.
    These nations have applied RHD type.
    But, the car as usual in Korea is LHD type, therefore I mentioned that steering wheel position type is not related this issue.

    I bought my gen 4 in feb/16. Never heard a noise like that. It would drive me crazy !!
    So much noise for so little steering wheel movement. Is LKA on ?
