I just get the impression you are not supportive of dealership labor costs. Saying it's "money well spent", just isn't like you

    Then you misunderstand me.

I value and respect expertise very much, regardless of whether it comes from a dealership or not.
Getting under a car and opening a plug to change a fluid is not expertise, and I figure it is worth about 11 cents. In that case I revile the dealership for charging $50-150 and I tend to mock the people who pay it, particularly when they then whine. In a similar vein, I think salespeople are barely worth minimum wage -- if that. Inventors I highly admire.

Well if anything else does come back with those you codes to do with what Patrick's talking about then they will have been the people that have gotten in there and actually tried to look at it and figure it out ...

Oh I just missed seeing sagebrush's comment.. I absolutely agree on admiring people that do have an expertise in the field especially when it comes to this kind of technical expertise it takes to figure out these Prius's ... If they are getting out the service repair manuals and really doing a deep dive into troubleshooting codes and where the root cause is

Dealer called said CEL. Light is on and their technicians want to keep it still. Waiting to speak to her directly to provide Patrick's suggestion..

Finally talk to the service advisor and she said the lights are on ....the technicians are stumped and they're going to call Monday morning and get technical teams involved from Toyota so they can truly try to find out what it is ....and she said if they got to come off the price on the wheel sensor or something else since that turned out not to be all it wasshe'll work with me on pricing

I really like the possibility that was suggested that the window Tinters could've gotten the ECU area wet or some of those connections wet in there and I'm hoping maybe Monday they will look at that area

Since this is a 2004 and not under warranty, you might want to be careful on how much time you "authorize" to diagnose the car. They work on a hourly basis.

That is a good point she did say that there would be no other cost to me at this time until they can figure out what the root cause is...

JC. I just realized there's nobody else in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that can work on a Prius .. I am so screwed

Honestly, there is really nothing to work on with the Prius. Most repairs are quite minor. You'll be fine.

I hope you have let the service writer know that the problem occurred immediately after window tint film was installed and you are wondering whether some liquid may have spilled in the proximity of the skid control ECU below the dashboard.

Do I correctly recall that one or two of your older Prius have demonstrated drivability symptoms that you are not happy with, but have not yet been able to resolve?

    Patrick,

Well, my 2006 has a weak hv battery but won't throw a code, the pump that goes on for 10 seconds to the thermos makes a tea pot whistling sound, and there's a ticking sound to the engine. My 2008 steering seems to feel a little tighter after the steering shaft recall. And my 2005 had a new transaxle. All 3 burn oil but no unresolved issues that I can't live with.

My 2015 just sits in the garage, I can't really stop driving the older cars.....strange.

Well so far I haven't experienced anything minor with this Prius so I'm hoping that will change

Patrick I tried to talk to her twice today she kept cutting me off because she was so busy I'm going to go in there Monday morning when I get the loaner car and sit down and explain this to her

Same here, my 2015 has logged around 300 miles since I bought it in March. The 2004 is my daily driver since my office parking is in the hot AZ summer sun. It now has logged 198K miles, I expect to be able to post to the 200K mile club string in a couple of months.

Your signature indicates you have two 2015s, so I take it that both are sitting around?

Well my regular hybrid 2015 has about 800 miles now since I bought it.

The plug in is a financial experiment that's going to backfire. I was able to get $6500 off on the car, as a lease and it came with carpool stickers. In addition, there's still an additional $1500 rebate through CA clean air board. With all this "equity" plus carpool stickers, I was going to have someone take over the lease after 3 months when the high demand carpool stickers run out and the plug in goes out of production........but of course, they approved another round of 15000 stickers after I leased.

So it looks like that car will become my wife's new car.

Did she ever reply to your email asking her if she's sure that will fix the problem?

Is it politically incorrect nowadays to say that you speculated ?

I still think this will work out to my advantage, just not as much as I speculated. The car still has less than 40 miles on it
