Does the servo just have a gear sticking out, or some more elaborate linkage with a limited range of travel?

If it's a linkage with a travel range, I'm not sure what to suggest; it should probably be lined up about like the old one was.

If it's just a gear, there's a chance this could be easy: the gen 3 position encoding is just done by counting pulses, so it's possible the system can discover on its own where the door stops moving, and then reckon its position from there. But I don't know for sure that's how they've done it. With the older, gen 1/2 style of position encoder, it wouldn't even have been a possibility.

well I still have the original in pieces, one from the junkyard and the new one is just dangling in the Prius but connected (the Prius locks you out from using the HVAC for about a minute after startup if you don't have the servo at least plugged in) and it appears it is just a gear. I'll grab some shots later
