AC making this noise and not blowing cold after belt replacement

    Are you actually watching the drive belt go around the idler pulley and saying it stops a moment later? While the engine continues to run?

    I'm finding that hard to picture.

    I think there are some pretty big misunderstandings and miscommunications going on here.

    In a 2nd generation Prius the drive belt has no effect on the air conditioner unless the engine starts to overheat, at which point the computer will shut down the A/C in an attempt to stop the overheat condition. And then, the belt is only implicated if it is what caused the overheat.
