Actually she has more than one problem. She feels something isn’t quite right since she got 2 tires replaced due to a road hazard.

If the road hazard created a slow enough leak, and you didn't notice hitting it at all, the yellow light eventually coming on could clue you in to stop and check it out.

If it was anything like the load-strap hook I drove over last year, it'll be the change in sound and handling that make you notice and pull over as soon as you can, which still might or might not be soon enough to save the tire from irreparable sidewall flex.

Shortly thereafter, as you're setting out your warning triangle or looking around the car for the damage, the yellow light will come on.

I had a non retread tire on a semi blow directly in front of me last week .

A bunch of black dust and rubber shooting out front the back rear tire on the trailer. Luckily I avoided the main tread flying back, but the shower of rubber was enough for me to pull over and check condition ;).

The truck driver also pulled over as I bet he could feel a difference and probably heard the explosion. When we went around the corner just before the tire let loose, the load he had on appeared to be shifting, but it also looked like the load was a bit over weight .

Didn’t chat with him as I was now late for a meeting, but I doubt they have TPMS sensors on the trailers (y).

so what usually happens, the tire slowly leaks while the truck is doing 70mph, until it reaches a low pressure point to cause it to explode?

What I think happened was an overweight load caused excessive stress on the tire, increasing the pressure in the tire then when we rounded the corner, the weight shifted to a different section of the tire that couldn’t handle it, leading to the explosion ;).

Just thankful the acrylic nose on the Prime didn’t crack or shatter(y).

Scary stuff. I saw a flatbed lose a load of huge thick metal plates on I 5 once. Good thing no one was alongside him when it happened. Those plates would have gone thru a car like a hot knife thru butter. Highway shook when they hit the ground.

Yes, some. Others just wear out or come apart due to air loss.
NO, generally they do NOT have pressure monitors.

    Yes.
It is a pretty simple concept.
Don't see why you are having such a problem understanding it.
    Oh, wait.......never mind.

maybe they should require big rigs to have tpms. i have seen their tires come apart in front of me, but never a passenger car
