Yikes, I could hardly see the forum for the ads that bounced, scrolled and otherwise interrupted the page.

I usually use FireFox and see very little in the way of ads (must be why I never see the 20 percent off ad for NAPA auto parts anymore).

No computer expert, but the experience is so much better with FF.

And no Ad Blocker in FireFox?

I can't stomach Edge, btw. Was using MS Internet Explorer (for donkey's years), but it was acting up with the site so much (since migrating to Win 10) that adapted to FireFox, really like it now.

There must be an ad blocker in FF, right? And, maybe I activated it years ago? Got me?

The reason I was using Edge was I wanted to check an auto parts store weekly ad and FF does not let me view the circulars. Edge has no problems letting me. LOL!

After checking oil prices I just decided to hit PC and wow, a swimming sea of ads danced across the screen

The first couple times I opened MS-Edge, the very first 'ads' served up were from malicious 'Your computer is infected with viruses! Call us to help fix it!' scammers. Even later, Cortana's so-called 'help' features linked me to some sites of the very same sort.

Those experiences convinced me to keep using FF with various plug-ins to very sharply limit third party access and content. There is no good reason for any web page I visit to reach out to dozens of other sub-content providers to fill the page, each with its own cookies and (lack of) privacy protection and tracking and data mining issues.

You might want to consider using Ghostery, or another such tracking blocker program.

    I do not know.
I am working with the moderators here to try & track down an ad that looks like it is phishing for email credentials.

I have seen that before and thought it was part of the new management policy.

Not on my Android app. All the superfluous information is filtered out, especially advertisements and spam.

That filters out youtube & Amazon links too. I used an ad blocker to make the site more reliable when there were site issues. After I realized what I was missing, I quit using the ad blocker when the site got more stable.

I use Chrome and run AdBlocker and uBlock to block adds. If I go to a site that wants me to turn them off I leave and don't go back.

Any of the microsoft browsers are unusable IMO. They always have way too many glitches and problems, so much so that they have to add compatibility versions in the browser to maybe get it to work for you. No thanks!

Sometimes you can just change the domain in the link too. I just did that changing from .com to .ca for Mendel in another thread.

That would be great, But, the UK Amazon dosn't stock those things and USA mainly dosn't mail them over. Taxes and politics.

I used Mozilla until I discovered Opera and couldn't live without a tabbed browser. That was back in the days when sites were coded exclusively for Internet Exploder.

Chrome came along with tabbed browsing out of the box, then Firefox added it. Opera was sold to some Chinese firm.

The original creators of Opera formed a new company and created a new browser, which I have not looked into yet.

I like Opera, but switch between Chrome, Opera and Duckduckgo.

I do not use MS browsers because they do not support extensions (maybe Edge does, IDK). Fire Fox (and Chrome and Chromium browsers) uses add-ons (aka extensions) and most popular extension is some kind of ad blocker. I use uBlock for ad blocking and Privacy Badger for maintaining privacy settings. If a website does not work with those turned on I do not use that website. I do not mind the ads, but they need to be delivered in a non-obtrusive, non-exploitative manner. If websites choose to annoy me in order to provide content, I can do without the content. If the internet goes dark because of my ad blocking use, I apologize in advance, but will not stop using these measures until the ad industry gets a clue.

P.S. Off-topic, but may be useful to many here. For Face Book there is a great extension/add-on called FB Purity. Try it and you will not believe you could ever go on FB without it. It helps keep the interface the way you configure it and prevents FB's changes to effect you.
