Still cool in our books :D We make it a point to play that song every time we hop in a rental Prius as we pull out of our driveway heading on a road trip. My wife likes to sing to it

That's cheery, but I think "Big Noise from Winnetka" would do the trick. I like this version:

Dumbass politicians with nothing to do. Don't they have snow to clear or something?

Why not have an alternate horn sound? Lower in volume and not aggressive sounding. That way, when the ICE is off and they are cruising parking lots, driver can choose to alert pedestrians. Or I can just slide my windows down and let Rammstein do it for me.

I think they should make it sound like a Ice Cream Truck and then you could make some money on your drive.

I can't remember the last time I saw a blind person walking down the street? I just do not know why 99.999% of us have to suffer for .001% of the population?

I still cannot believe that this law passed with 100% approval.

If blind people do not like my driving they should stay off the sidewalks.

I have had three hybrid cars. Backing up requires a lot of attention. People don't hear the car, and will walk right behind it as I am backing up. I did wire in a beeping license plate frame to my reverse light on the Highlander Hybrid for my wife. She hit a guy two years ago (no injury, fortunately).

    Not an Internet rumor ...

BTW ... Here is an excerpt from the response I got

It appears that snail-mail is the only way to contact Secretary of Transportation.

Below is my original email submitted via the
DOT Contact Us - U.S. Department of Transportation 'e-mail us' link:

Sadly electric / hybrid vehicle owners and fans do not have lobbyists to act on our behalf so it appears to be a pretty much one-sided battle.

I also fear that any serious voicing of opinions against this proposal will appear to be a callous disregard for the safety of the visually impaired - which I assure you is not the case. :(

This is exactly why an effort to fight this legislation is doomed.
    Suck it up.
    It's gonna happen.

My Prius already has a noise maker that works at any speed and is easily activated by just pressing on the HORN symbol on the steering wheel. I don't test it very often but do know that it works. I guess the government wants me to use it more often.

Install an air compressor, tank and a set of train horns. That'll get them the hell out of your way

We have tragic evidence that this isn't sufficient to alert some teenagers zoning out to portable music players or gabbing on cell phones. Even with the train horns still mounted on the train.
