After 3 Prii, I finally said good bye. (Not to PC though!)

Probably a stupid question, since I never got my Gen 2 up to 80,000 miles...I used to change the oil every 5,000 miles but I used 5W-20.

I think 10,000 miles is way too long an interval, especially since it will have taken me 2 years to get my Gen 4 that far.

Using 0W-20 synthetic oil, what would be a reasonable interval in months? I still have one more Toyota Care service, which I'll do in June.

I agree, 10k is too long! I'd just change it every 6 months. It's a good base line, even if you don't drive too much.

Guess 0W-20 every 5k is not overkill.

After seeing that video, I’m glad I’ve been changing the oil sooner than later.

I’ve always had the mechanic check my oil level before every oil change.

So far so good. The Prius has over 110k miles now after 4-1/2 Years.

Did they fix the oil consumption issue in the GEN4?

Yeah good plan! The guy in the video says 3-4k miles and that's just plain silly with synthetic oil. 5-6k miles is just right in the hybrids with small oil capacity.

People always talk about how long their oil can last and how you can run it for soo long and all.. But hell I'd rather keep that oil like new in my engine, replace the oil while its still perfectly good isn't a waste If you've gotten 5k miles out of it, and your engine always has simi fresh oil :)

Surely they did. If they didn't they are fools. Already so many prii owners have gotten tired of oil consumption issues. Issues that shouldn't be happening in the first place, especially with such a fantastic Japanese vehicle :(

There is one 20i6 Gen 4 user here with 140K miles. I need to ask about oil consumption.
Another user here put 90K miles with no issues before he decided to go back to a VW Diesel. No issues with the Prius, he just prefers the diesel.

I have a 2016 GEN4 with 97k miles but just picked it up from dad and it's too soon for oil consumption regardless at this time to tell.

Thank you! Well it's looking hopeful! Maybe in about 5 years I'll pick up a cheap 2016 Prius as a run around car. Hopefully it is rock soild as the old gen 2

How many miles do you log in a year? I was trying to get @soldierguy to give in and let us see what the egr circuit looked like at 120 k miles, but it’s no longer in their fleet:(.

Maybe you’ll help us out with some data(y).

How about the guy in the other thread with 140K on the car?

Was it 5W30? Easy to mix up.

If you want to rationalize, there's all sorts of proviso for "severe service", which is 5000 miles OR 6 months, whichever comes first. (y)

I usually had 5W30, IIRC, and did either 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever came first. That would be at least 24, definitely more. I need to find a certified hybrid/Prius mechanic near Plan l Plano TX. Last Toyota Card's in June, when she turns two!

I know there are 2 Prime drivers near here who previously had non-plug in Prii...

    Recommendations, anyone?
