After-Market Fog Lights

I added the OEM Toyota fog lights. The look and fit is good. No drilling or cutting the car up

I just saw some OEM Prius fogs on eBay. Just search for "Toyota Prius" and scroll down a page or two.

I am considering the PIAA 2100XT "driving lights" for extended highway night driving. I really want to avoid retread tires and animals.

JJF, now that you have had your fog lights for a while, do you still like it? Would you suggest PIAA? Does it really have the horizontal cut off to prevent blinding other drivers?

As for the electrical connection, does connecting to the jumper bar cause the seal lead acid battery to run down or will all the 12 volt devices get power from the NiMH battery once the Prius is started?

Anyone else out there with better advice and or products that you suggest.

I tried the fog lights on a dark, rainy night and they work really well. I've had other PIAA lights before and they really help in night-time whiteout conditions. I definitely recommend PIAA lights.

I wouldn't call the horizontal cut-off razor sharp but the beam pattern is well-contained within the horizontal shape. I don't think it would bother oncoming traffic.

I tested the fuse box power with the car turned off and it still has power from the small battery, but as soon as you start the hybrid system the power source will switch to the hybrid system. If you follow PIAA's directions the fog lights will come on only when the parking lights are also on. And since the car automatically turns off the lights when you leave it, it will turn off the fog lights too if you forget to turn them off.

I love PIAA lamps. I had 10 of them on my Explorer. They are very high quality lamps, but you also pay for that quality.

 

does adding driving lights or fog lights effect the factory warranty?

 

Any damage caused by the installation of fog lights won't be covered under the warranty. Other than that, the warranty will still be in place.

If you are interested in "accent" lights for the fogs, then the LEDs are a good way to go, IMO. My semi-educated guess is that they will not help with actual illumination of the road - and depending on beam pattern, may make foul-weather driving more dangerous.

can you tell me how to get to the factory fog lights? Owners manual says to contact dealership, not this guy. I bought a new fog light lens unit and need to replace the old one because of a cracked lens. The car failed state inspection. Oh yeah, I have a 2004 Prius....
