Pretty standard for the inner and outer edge to be rusty.

Pretty standard for rotors to be rusty period. That said, there's light surface rust and it's-disintegrating-in-my-hands rust. Don't know about OP, but I can say that after 258k miles, I'm in the second group and $28 for Bosch and $56 for OEM/rotor is not worth my being concerned about.

I am very amused that there are TRD performance pads available.

Prices are from Olathe Toyota's site. May be cheaper elsewhere (but probably not by a lot).

    Front brake pad kit:
    Regular pads: 04465-47050 ($76.88)
    TRD Performance: PTR09-52071 ($60.50)

    Front Rotors: Rotor - Toyota (43512-47030) ($56.57)

edit: I confused the rotor manufacturers, $28 is for Bosch, not Brembo.

Yes, maybe they could last longer...they did feel different lately though, and a mechanic I know well suggested in the summer that I change them. The rust was worse "inside" the rotors than on the edges.. if that makes sense. I find the car so cheap on brakes that I don't mind....much better than our crv, that can go through a set of rotors in 6 months if not serviced when winter tires are changed. Besides, the new ones are so pretty (not that you can see them behind the steel rims!).
