Aftermarket 12v battery $89

If you are hit from behind in a Prius, how many inches before the 12 v battery is part of the crumpled car? Hit from the side is not better. Unlike your Saturn, this battery is in the passenger compartment, it does not have to enter the passenger compartment, it is already there.

However it is your choice. Paying twice as much for your passenger's safety may not be worthwhile, I have not met them.

As I am in the UK I can only give you the manufactures names and sizes to look for.

The batteries do not have normal posts they usually have a 6 or 8 mm threaded hole (brass) with stainless steel bolts (supplied) Just use a penny washer to bolt down the Prius clamps.

The batteries you are looking for come in 2 nominal capacities (varies slightly from one manufacturer to another) 35 amp/hr and 55 amp/hr.

Search Ebay for mobility batteries, names to look for (maybe some different in US) in no particular order Platinum, Lucas, Ritar Ultra max, Electroquest, Leoch, Yuasa, and Matrix. Prices UK around £50 so US should be $90.
