well, i normally would never settle without the insurance company, but in this case, i trusted she would be good on her word (plus, it was obvious she was well off despite driving a Focus). plus she was a old Jewish, German, Polish, or something or another lady with an accent.

well, she gave me a check today for the estimate to the penny, so its pretty much a done deal

Excellent! Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m going to have fun regardless if someone hit or not my Odyssey :)

Hmmm. No word from the shop for several days.

The last I heard they had the fender in, on the car and prepped. The car was headed to the paint booth. The "Hybrid" badge was on back-order and would not be in for some time, so I'll have to come back to get it later. The wheel was back-ordered but was suppose to arrive today.

The shop also is delivering my Prius to the Toyota dealer once the wheel is back on so that they can run a full alignment test. (I pushed the insurer rather hard on this one -- seeing as how the wheel took enough of a hit to require replacement, I figured an alignment check was appropriate.)

    Hi Priori,

So sorry to hear about your baby. I hope it comes home soon.

What west Burb are you in? I'm in Naperville, and would like to know if I am close to this good repair shop. I have kids that need work done a lot. I have been using White Eagle in Naperville, and have been pleased so far. But, I could always use suggestions.

If the bumper was moved during the collision or taken off during repairs you may wish to check the alignment of the Parking Assist sensor. Nav system manual page 194 (second column last item).

Yes, I asked for that as well. We will see how it all comes out.

I heard Tuesday afternoon the car was ready, so I hope to pick it up later this morning.

Sorry to hear about the LONG delay getting your Prius back into your hands. The good news: It will be fixed!

    I HAVE IT BACK!!

I picked up my Prius today, and it looks great!

It had been taken to my local dealer for wheel alignment and mounting of the tire on the new wheel.

I decided to check the tire pressures to see what the dealer's folks may have done. I had set my tires -- right before dropping it off for teh repair -- at 48/46 (the are 51psi max sidewall); in some ways I was looking to see how it would be handled.

    It appears it was ignored.

The left front tire was the one remounted on a brand new wheel. It was set at about 38psi, while the others were unchanged.

Anyway . . . The car is in great shape. Aside from the tire pressure issue and the fact my mileage had been deep sixed, the car responded and reacted like bran new.

I dropped off the rental Dodge Charger (w/ 3.5 liter Hemi!) after a fill up: Less than 15MPGs! And I babied that car for just over one week.

Wow! I am SOOO glad to be back in my car.

Thanks, guys! I'm glad to have you share in my excitement.

    Sorry not to respond earlier!

This is the second well-handled repair I've had at Car Care Collision Center in Geneva. I really can't say whether the costs have been good or bad, but I like the fact they coordinated everything with my own dealer (St. Charles Toyota) for the alignment and specialty pieces -- including one of those very expensive new wheels.

I'll have to admit I had that feeling back in 2002 when I first started looking for a Prius. It took a few years and finding the right sales person before I felt comfortable going there.

We bought a Sienna first, and the experience was just fine (as far as purchasing autos goes). Even so, it wasn't going to be my first choice for the Prius, because I hadn't found the right person there. I left three sales people in the dust across two years before I found someone there I could talk Prius with.

It is a matter of talking with the right people (for you) and finding the necessary "comfort" level before you can purchase a new car.

That's almost unbelievably bad luck. Have you considered having it exorcized or hiring a witch doctor or something? Wow! I'm really sorry, again. At least the body shop should be getting good at fixing Gen3 Prius.

Unfortunately it looks like that same fender got pulled up and bent out a little bit also?

Yep. The brand new fender did get bent -- and more than just a little bit. It was pushed and rolled. The shop thinks it can be pulled back in, but they'll get another new one if necessary.

Also, all of the plastic brackets holding the headlamp assembly (and other parts associated with the bumper) were snapped. It looks like a real undressing will happen.
