I wouldn't rule out spark plugs either, the original ones will last forever but counterfeits are not uncommon and can last as little as 15k from my experience.

Video in first link in my sig, by @NutzAboutBolts is quite good, apart from coolant spillage. Do read last few paragraphs in that link in my signature, regarding coolant.

do keep in mind, if head gasket is failing, cleaning the EGR will not cure it. It will likely prevent reoccurrence though.
