Toyota.. as in the factory and corporate... does not use any material to tint windows.

if the windows are tinted or dark.. it is because the window itself is made that way..

if there's a tint film on it.. then either regional Toyota and/or the dealership had a part in getting that stuff done.. whether at port.. or some other third party... which then.. who the hell knows what they use... but it probably isn't worth $399... that's for sure.

My tint (port installed) has a 3M sticker on each front window saying that it meets TX, CA and I think FL tinting laws. Plus I think in some paperwork somewhere it said the tint had a 3 year warranty. So I'm guessing some sort of 3M product.

Just looked through all my paperwork and it doesn't detail exactly what it is. The warranty insert is just a generic 3/36000 with instructions on cleaning from 3M.

Here in California, you can tint any window, any shade except the front side windows/windshield (no tint allowed). With that being said, I recently had both my 2012 Prius and my wife's V, tinted (including front side windows), as I have all my previous cars for years and I have never been pulled over. You just have to be sensible. I tinted my windows "medium" on everything but the front side windows, which I did "light". The cops just want to be able to see you and light tint allows good coverage while still being able to keep yourself visible.

Here are a couple of pics of my cars:

BTW, my tint guy's name is Danny and he is in Huntington Beach, Ca. He's been doing my cars for years, great guy! Does an amazing job, for the best price in town. Here's his website: Auto Tint Specialist - Window Tint Huntington Beach He charged me $120 for the V and $130 for my Prius. (It's $10 dollars more ona regular Prius, for the strip of glass between the trunk and the spoiler). I imagine a "C" wpould be $120 or less.... Anyway, the best thing about him is that he gives you a WRITTEN GAURANTEE ON BOTH LABOR AND MATERIALS!You basically can't go wrong. That's a special price he gives me, but he told me that anyone who I refer, gets the same price. Just make sure you tell him that TIM sent you. I hope this doesn't come off as an ad. I have no affiliation to this particular tint shop, or any other one for that matter. I just want to see my Prius bros and sisters get taken care of.

P.S. If anybody needs any additional info, feel free to PM me. Also, if you want to use Danny's services, make sure you set an appointment, as you can imagine, at those prices, he is super busy.

I live in San Jose, too! Any recommendations in where I can take my Prius c for window tinting?

The price depends on the film. I have Huper Optik ceramic and it was $500+ from Automall Tint Specialist in Fremont.

Matt @ Rocky Mtn in Livermore is a F1 ceramic dealer and charges about $400. Premier Mobile Group in Fremont is also great, but is the most expensive of the three.

The tint on my C was installed by Toyota at the "inport" in Jacksonville, Florida. If anyone is not familiar with the "inport" it's essentially a mini Toyota assembly/accessory plant. They can add any accessory that the plant in Japan can install on ANY Toyota model car or truck. (Now Tundras are made in SanAntonio, Tx)
This includes leather interior, wheel upgrades, window tint, XPEL paint protection (which I have on my C) stero upgrades, DVD installations in headrests. Many models of Toyota cars and trucks come off the freighter from Japan as base models and recieve the upgrades or eye candy at the inport.

This upgrade assembly plant is all linked to supply and demand of what is selling and what is hot on dealer lots. Its easier for Toyota to upgrade models at the inport rather than the mother ship Toyota plant load a frighter with fully loaded models if this makes sense. And some buyers just don't want to pay the high cost of fully loaded models. I had a special wheel and tire package added along with stainless steel step rails added to a Tundra I purchased. I watched and waited as they did the I stall in record time. I paid for the eye candy and left a happy camper. The Toyota Inport in Jacksonville, Florida is pretty amazing. The lions share of Toyota carsnand trucks that are on dealer lots in the Southeast of the United States pass through the inport if they have any significant upgrades. For what it's worth.

Ill be putting 25% on mine tomorrow. It's dark enough to keep the car cool and add privacy, but not so dark that is hard to see at night

I got my Prius c quoted yesterday for $240 (same person I have been using for years) which is doing all the windows minus the front windshield. The hardest part he said was doing the small windows on the front and rear doors due to the fact of not being able to hide the edge of the film into the window seals. I'm looking at doing 20% all around and then 35% on the front two. I figured that having the black interior will make it look darker than it really is but still being able to see out of the windows at night.

Anyone ever tint the top of the windshield where the sun strip (or whatever the technical name is) would be located?
