People say you pay a premium for the prius. I was at the dealer having my 10k service done and was looking at the FJ cruiser. The msrp on them puts them at 23k but the dealer marks them up to 28-30k. I asked why and was told because they are good suv’s. so people are willing to pay the premium to have the next suv on the market and pay for the extra gas but when it comes to the hybrid the extra money suddenly becomes illogical.

Yes, I think they've done well with little advertising. I just checked the inventory at the 2 closest dealers. Dealer #1 has 2--1 standard, 1 touring. Dealer #2 has 14 standard. Each has one 2005 in used inventory. I don't think these cars are collecting dust on the lot. Dealer #1 has many more cars & suv's on the lot. I know since I drive past it 5 days a week. I'll bet money that the owners of the dealerships would sell their souls to the devil so all their inventory would move as fast as the Prius. How long do you think a Prius stays on the lot? I don't think they last more than 2 weeks here but I don't check inventory every day.

I've said that from the get go, when I bought my Classic it was at the end of the model year and I got it for $5700 off the MSRP. They still made money on it, albet not a lot but no car dealer looses a cent on any vehicle, so that's about the total markup on a CDN Prius. If they did lower the price to $28K they'd move a lot more than they are now that's for sure. You really think TC cares? not a chance.

Yeah but I know for a 2005 Prius, it's $28k for a base Prius and $32k for the Premium Package that I have so it's about $2,000 for the dealer. Slightly more than $2k for the Premium, slightly less than $2k for the base model.
