Hello! The ambient temperature sensor on my car is missing - as in there is an open connector where it is supposed to be. This is likely due to the fact that I purchased the vehicle with prior front end damage which had been repaired, and I guess the shop got lazy.

The peculiar part to me, though, is that the HVAC Temp Control Panel in the cabin displays a decently accurate outside temperature, and the A/C system seems to work just fine.

Is there another sensor on the car which supplies the outside temp value to the HVAC Temp Control Panel? If not, any ideas on how I seem to have an accurate outside temp reading? And is this presumably affecting A/C amplifier function, even if by an unnoticeable amount?

It would make sense that there's more than one temp sensor if you're still getting a reading on the screen... But it also could be that the auto shop mistakenly mounted that sensor somewhere further upstream of that circuit and spliced in the wires/plug from previous harness? I suspect if you were to set up Toyota Techstream via a min-VCI connector it would show all the internal and external temp sensor and you'll get a better sense of where there's a loss of signal.

Great idea! I am new to the Prius world, so getting equipped with Techstream is a suggestion I will act on.
