All I KNOW is that my MPG really gets slammed with the A/C on. I don't know anything about keeping the battery cool. When I run the A/C here in Florida I see that I lose about 5 to 7 MPG. That's with me running it at either low or one up from low at either 65 or 70 degrees. I think what happens is the A/C pulls from the battery not giving you as much range to pulse and glide with. I live in a suburban area where speed limits run between 35 and 45 MPH. W/O the A/C on I will regularlly get "green bars" on my battery screen after driving for about 10 minutes or so. With the A/C on that rarely happens. My '07 has about 8,000 miles on it. I hope this helps!
