When I was signing my purchase paperwork of my Prime about 2 months ago, the finance person was trying to sell me all sorts of add ons i.e. Warranty for paint, lojack...etc

One item which caught my interest was the animated rear signal lights. Instead of a traditional blinking, it "moves". Did anyone go for this package? Anyone have samples of how it looks like? Is this something we can do ourselves for cheaper??

I would like to see the brake light on the rear spoiler blink rapidly when applying the brake pedal, Anything to make the rear brake lights on the Gen4 Prius more noticeable!

That is illegal in the U.S.

Here is an interesting article describing several car features we can't have in the U.S.:

    Not anymore.....

I sure hope the distracted tailgater sees these small brake lights in time.

Night time is good. It's during bright sunlight that the brake lights seem so small. The vertical portion that is circled, is that a reflector? I'd like to see the brake bulbs extend the full length downward. Similar to the Gen3 models.

When driving behind one, the entire car looks very small from the rear. Probably another reason for all the tailgating.

In Norway the left one is the OEM rear fog light, which US versions dont have. And the right one is just a reflector, from what i know u cant put anything in them because its just a flat reflector if that makes sense... there is no space between the reflector and the transparent cover on the US version.

I have never heard of this feature either, seems weird for it to have it... Since the blinker isnt exactly horizontal, so it wouldnt make that much sense since its vertical... Also, sequental blinkers arent legal in USA, while they r in EU, and the EU version does not have it.

    Ford Mustang have sequential blinkers.

That is because on the Mustang, only the inner red blinker (marked in red) is needed to meet the mandatory standard, the two other r not needed to meet the standard, theyre not even certfified as indiators, theyre just certified as exterior lighting. [IMG]

Sequental blinkers on for example the new RS3 however, is not enough to meet the standard in USA, so they had to add an extra constant blinking indicator in the brake light underneath the sequental blinker.

Right, distracting following drivers with a light display is illegal, although I like the idea of notifying following drivers about the intensity of the brake pedal pressure.

I'm always in favor of better, more effective lighting on a car (particularly brake lights). But, whatever is done needs to be done uniformly, like the introduction of the third brake light, so that people can become accustomed to the change and know what to expect. Predictability is key to avoiding the distractions you mention.
