The only one I can think of is charging to full immediately after a drive with the windows rolled up on a 100+F day.

The battery would be a comfortable temperature due to the A/C cooling the interior air.

But since that doesn't follow the best-practice of allowing a "cold soak" and certainly isn't necessary, why would you do that?

Waiting until the evening is also better from a grid & expense approach.

Since EV don't have that flexibility, they are in a very different situation than Prius with an extremely efficient engine to use after depletion.

The PIP cycles the AC when it's charging? Neat.

I've had a few situations where I've charged immediately after a drive b/c I'm heading out again in a couple hours, but I generally crack the windows.

My wife otoh, generally leaves the windows up.

No, that hasn't been necessary. But the option for cooling to be part of the process is available. It's just software update to make it automatic. Of course, that would be twisted into a recall. You can't win.

That allows plenty of time for a cold soak. What is your point?

I plugged in this afternoon at work. The Prius was already warm from having taken it for lunch, with the windows open to enjoy the fresh air. It sat windows shut in the parking lot as the surface-temperature climbed to 90°F while recharging. That was quite a bit warmer than my previous data collecting. I was excited about the opportunity that presented. The air-temperature was 86°F, just at the tolerable limit for driving without the A/C use. I lowered all the windows and headed home.

The temperature of the battery-pack stayed within the comfort-zone, despite being warmer outside. It peaked for EV at 100.2°F, which was right as the plug-supplied capacity ran out. While warming up in HV, the Prius was required to climb a hill at 55 mph. That pushed it to 101.5°F before dropping back down and staying down.

I'd consider that a worthwhile sample for warm-weather driving. Any hotter and most of us would simply turn on the A/C instead, which drops the temperature of the intake-air quite a bit.

Attached is the data in CSV format.

So we've got Bisco commuting to work even though it's not a work day, and john1701a excited about being able to drive off in a sweltering hot car. Does anyone think we might need help....?

54°F and rainy this morning. Sweltering heat and dry would be much better.

The Prius has been yearning to go on a kayak trip, to show off its practical side...

So, you're going to slip the green kayak under the driver-side wheels and the red one under the passenger wheels and then sit on the roof with a long paddle and drift lazily down the river?

That really is an example of something I can't do with my Volt.

    Good luck! ;)

Things have changed a little bit though. I am not taking my daughter to work any more, the wife is!
I count coffee as being at home!:p
