My wife has decided a Prius Two will be her next car. We'd love a trip to Asheville this fall, so we are planning to purchase at Jim Barkley and drive it back to Orlando. They have a ton of 2013's in stock. I'm OCD when it comes to researching stuff like this, so I think I have everything covered, but thought I'd run it by the crew here.

    The numbers:

    Base $24,200
    Options $698 (Mats 299 + tint $399)
Manuf, Delv Proc & Hndlg $860
    Total $25,758
    Selling Price $20,977

The selling price is the same for just about every Two in stock. The ones with tint are the same as those without. Also, my understanding is that the price assumes you take cash incentive instead of 0% financing. To me, this is a better deal because we have good credit. My parents (80's) just bought a Camry and got 1.9% with credit scores around 760.

    Any comments on this deal?

What's your out the door cost?

I paid, $22,500 for my Prius two, about 5+ months ago. It was one of those dealership has 50 in stock, all priced at the same price deals.

My windows seem to have a degree of tint attached. I did not ask for it or even really notice it on the day I purchased, but it is nice. I did not pay any extra for it.

I think even a base Prius is comparatively a nicely equipped vehicle. Keyless entry, smart key, cruise control, climate control....HSD.....you get a lot with a Prius.

But just make sure you are happy with what you are getting. You don't want to buy it, and then muse in 3 months about having a sunroof, and/or some of the upper level perks.

Also, I would make sure you and your wife can be comfortable with The Prius seats. I have no problem at all with the ergonomics but some people complain. Just trying to head off a future "These Seats Are Killing Me" thread.

Seriously, I would try to rent one (one with the same seats as you will be getting) compare apples to apples. Then go for a several hour road trip.

It's near impossible on a 10-20 minute (or even less) test drive to tell how the Prius seats will feel. You could ask the dealership if you could sit in the seat of a new Prius and read a book for an hour.

"Your Wife Has Decided" makes me think this is going to be "her" vehicle at least in partnership, if not in greater degree. So make sure she is comfortable with the seats.

Thanks for the response. There are no dealer fees added on. The $20,977 should be it. Tax & tag are a function of the state and we live in FL. The way they work is they give you a temp tag and you pay the tax in FL when you register it, which has to be within 30 days.

My wife will be driving it 90% of the time. She has a sunroof on her current vehicle and never uses it. We compared the various models and there really aren't any "must haves" above the 2. We are going to test drive one locally this weekend. She's been driving a 2009 CRV and before that a 2003 CRV so the Prius is going to be a big change. Luckily she is low maintenance! Renting one isn't a bad idea. We could easily take a road trip to see our daughter in college. She's now driving the 2003 CRV and will get the 2009.

Our Prius came from Barkley and we had an excellent experience buying from them. BUT, have you checked your local dealers to see if they will match the total cost for the same car?

I would feel more comfortable buying locally unless I had reason to shun the local dealer.
We are near Barkley and have heard nothing but good reports from people who buy from them.

The local Toyota dealers have always been a pain to deal with. I drive a gas hog Lexus GX470 that I have serviced at the Toyota dealer closest to my house. I use the same advisor every time, and plan to ask him to refer me to a salesperson. Our plan is to test drive the Prius Saturday, but in no way will even give a hint of talking price while there. I will simply email them the deal from Jim Barkley and ask them to meet it. They charge a dealer fee so the price will have to be that much lower. They will probably tell me how much I'll save by not driving to Asheville. What they don't know is we come to Asheville or Boone every year in the fall. The pricing on their site seems pretty good right now.

The price quoted above does not include the 0% financing which is OK. The dealer said the price would be $1,750 higher if I went with the 0%. The math is a no-brainer as paying 2% will be well under the $1,750.

I'm trying to determine if this is a bad, good or great deal at $20,977. The dealer did say the 2014's will be on the lot in 2-3 weeks.

Went and test drove a 2013 Prius Two Blizzard Pearl this morning. My wife liked it more than she thought. Got a referral to an internet sales guy from my service advisor. He was pretty low key which was nice. When I asked about the 2014's, he said Jan or Feb, which is different from the 2-3 weeks stated by the NC dealer.
