If you are happy with it as it is then all good, I am much happier now it handles the way I drive it

Got my tanable strut bar and and it fit well. When tightening it down I broke 1 stud out of the 3 on the front passenger shock. Do I need to get a whole new shock or can just the bolt be replaced?

there is a mount plate on top of the strut which you will need to replace. its not hard to do, but if you don't know what your doing it can really hurt you bad. I mean like hospital bad. and if its got any miles on it, the struts could use replacement anyway.
there is no need to tighten the nuts that much. use a shorter wrench if you don't have a feel for torque (or a torque wrench, which is good to have).

69shovlhed may well be right but it is sometimes possible to remove the remainder of the bolt and put a new one in. I would try to drill a small hole through the broken off bolt and use an easyout. This would save a lot of time and money as you wouldn't need to take the whole thing apart.
    Good luck

on a normal bolt you can use an easy out but the mount has 3 studs welded to it. you won't be able to easy out the welded stud.

My bad I must of been thinking of another car I helped someone with that had welded captive nuts and straight bolts going down into them

Got it fixed... Wish I remembered to read this thread first. I went to the extreme and removed the whole strut. Had to hammer the old bolt out. Put a new one from the hardware store in then put the strut back in the car. As I was tightening the new bolt down it broke! I managed to get this bolt out without taking out the stud so already feel dumb for doing that. Put a different stronger bolt in that is still holding up. Had to get an alignment right away though,it was really off from me taking the strut out.

Months later now and after going on road trips it's still holding up. Car is much funner to drive now.

Failed first strut bar that wouldn't clear the cover.

STRUT out and you can tell which stud is broken.

As long as it hold, should be good.

You probably selected a 8.8 grade bolt that broke. You needed a 10.9 grade bolt, which meets with the Toyota OEM requirements.

Also, the bolt, if it is M10, as I surmise, will be 1.25 fine thread, NOT standard DIN 1.5 thread.

    Hope this helps.

doesn't the tanabe obstruct access to the inverter coolant? looks to me like it does.

Sorry for the late reply. Ended up getting Megan Racing Coil Overs so all shocks/ struts have been fully replaced and car is lowered now. Oddly enough had one dealer say if I wanted to sell they would swap my shocks out since I kept the originals.

It does block the inverter coolant but I had a both coolant exchanges months before doing this.
