I got a message on my display while driving to work this morning saying that the Antilock Brake System has a malfunction. The ABS light and VSS light also went on. I taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning but was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. I bought my car in September and it has less that 4,000 miles on it.

    Thanks,
    Jake

That looks new and like a first. Please keep us updated with what you learn from the dealer. Thanks! :)

The lights didn't go on the morning I took it to the dealer. They didn't find any codes from the previous day and everything tested out fine.

So the same thing happened again and I took my car back to the dealer. The lights and messages were still on when I got there the next day but again they didn't find any codes indicating there was a problem. Now they are telling me that this is what is supposed to happen when the car senses a skid. Does this sound reasonable? Why would the lights and messages stay on? What have other people experienced when either the ABS or VSC system is engaged?

I know in the snow video somebody posted in another thread, the traction light just came on momentarily when the car sensed lack of traction. The user did not have a full skid, though.

The issue has been happening on a daily basis lately. I brought the car in for its 5K servicing this morning and was told that they need to replace the brake master cylinder. Hopefully that will resolve the problem.

Yes and since they have to order the parts I don't get my car back until Friday. It all makes me feel a little uneasy.

You have a loaner, right? That is covered under the free ToyotaCare since the expected repair time is overnight or longer.

So I pick up my car on Friday with the new brake master cylinder and before I can even drive out of the dealer's parking light the ABS and VSC warning lights go back on! I brought it back yesterday and was told that a bracket on the brake pedal is causing the problem and they need to replace it. They have to order it so I won't get my car back until tomorrow.

This reminds me of my doctor visits. Go in with a little complaint, they bat me around between multiple specialists. Some of the consultations/visits REALLY bald money grabs, follow up visits to let you know: they're stumped. Nothing really resolved, buty they're all a little richer.

You either pay through insurance premiums or taxes. The money comes from the same paycheck regardless.
