Which one ? I guess LoJack is just about out of business ? Not producing any new units, but apparently, still working with the units they have out there.

So, I assumed it was going to end up being like a $150 a yr, or $10.95 subscription charge a month, and I was "almost" okay with that.... but now all the misleading adds are screwing me up ! I've seen SO many.... I think every freaking one of them actually, that say, "No monthly subscription payments".... but so far, I think every one of those, has in the fine print > for the first year, then the renewal cost the next year is like $79.95 or whatever. Come on, just don't try to mislead me you idiots ! So now I'm a little stuck in a loop, trying to find a place that is not trying to sucker me.

Of course I guess its "kind of" important too, that the unit works very well, long battery life, etc.

    Any advice ?
    Thanks in advance.

I have a gps tracker on my horse trailer from these guys: Home - GPS Tracking

Since my trailer has a 12v battery I got a $100ish car tracker. Came with 2 years of service and the annual renewal is very reasonable. Software is kind of old and janky. Definitely seems geared towards fleets but it's easy enough to set up geo fence, speed, battery disconnect email alerts. They have obd ones but a thief will probably toss that first thing. A hard wired device hidden under the dash somewhere is harder for them to find.

You could also get a tile or airtag sort of thing but those only report to devices within Bluetooth range that are compatible with the service. A dedicated hardc wired device with a small battery backup will report position wherever it's got GPS and cell signal.

Our insurance company will give us a Tracker and a discount for being a good driver. It would work great for me, not so much the better ½.

Well, I had an alarm, and live in a pretty quiet, low traffic area...
Not sure how much more I could do ?
Possibly a more expensive alarm, with shock and tilt sensors ? The alarm in my truck actually has a two way pager setup on my key fob. I can be somewhere like in the back end of a grocery store, and not even able to hear my alarm, and my key fob will start chirping then if I look at the little screen, it will tell me if a door has been opened, the hood, or it was hit or bumped, etc.
    Hmmm.
Funny thing is, everything I see about Prius' is, the catalytic converter. And honestly, the worst part about that is they are very hard to get (possible long waiting times) in CA. Otherwise, a catalytic converter would cost $0. Just to maybe avoid those hassles, I added a catalytic converter guard on my next Prius build... It was oy like $160. My mechanic could probably throw it on in 15 minutes.

i think there's less demand for gen 4 cat.

Well yes, I’ve considered that, but I’m not even positive my car was ever started. I’m thinking flatbed, with a winch.
The cat converter would be easy peasey !
How about having to replace the whole darn car !?!?

Do you have Safety Connect? Perhaps I am wrong, but my understanding is it does exactly what you are trying to do.

This. Probably the least inexpensive way.

Yep, I was about to mention that. Don't know if you have an SOS button in the upper center console. That's tied into the car's CAN along with GPS.
If your alarm doesn't have a tilt or shock sensor; IMHO - it's almost useless. Get that installed!! Car needs to be jacked-up to get the CAT or take the tires and wheels.

    Hope this helps.

Don't do it. They only use the data against you, not for you.

Doug, as it turns out, yes I do now Already downloaded the app, and it totally shows me the location of my car at all times.
None the less, I’m gong to have a really nice two way alarm system put on it next week, plus a cat converter shield, even though the cats on the 2022’s are partly blocked anyway.
What, me paranoid ? Maybe a little. Now every morning when I get up, the first thing I do, is check to see if I still own a vehicle ☹️

Getting the alarm installed today. I checked about the tilt sensor, and mine doesn't have that in the box, but is a fairly cheap easy add on. Like $40, so I will add that too. Another add on is a back up battery, so if your battery cable is cut, the alarm will still function. Not sure how easy (or difficult) it might be, to get to the battery cable to cut it, but that is also only about $40. I will talk to the installer about this too.
