I used to think that the m/kwh was a good measure until I did my experiment and got 48.2 EV miles on 1 charge with a m/kwh of only 7.2. I have had readings of 6.8 to 7 before but never got much above 37 EV miles.

Now this intrigues me...what is causing the discrepancy between the mi/kwh and the expected range, the math should line up. I mean, at 7mi/kwh on a full charge should get you at least 43 EV miles.

I checked my spreadsheet and my previous post should have read 5.8-6 mi/kwh (I can't edit it). I tracked 42 charges and they were very consistent. So the numbers are within range. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for bringing it to my attention.

so 48.2 miles at 7.2mi/kWh = ~ 6.7kW ... since the usable capacity for EV is only ~ 6.2 this would indicate that you also used the HV portion of the battery, that is interesting and also in line with my observation (I've come home several times with EV range dropping to zero ~ 0.2-0.4 miles away from home but car stays in EV, going really slow, no more than 25mph and accelerating that even a crippled snail could pass :ROFLMAO:) ... but you also had some range remaining, right?

Yes, I had .1 left when I took the pic. Sometimes it seems the .1 miles seem to last a long time.

assuming you charged right afterwards, and I don't know whether you have the option to see actual charge in kWh, but the time to charge display in the car - do you recall what the charge took? hrs?

Sorry don't know how long it took. I can't see the actual charge, but I used to calculate it by EV miles divided by miles/kwh displayed for the day. After checking 42 charges it was an average of 6.27 kwh per charge.

I'm ashamed :notworthy::notworthy:. Tried to take the same route back from Ann Arbor Michigan. Was in right lane, wanted to go straight through, turns out I was in a right turn lane, oh well I turned right. Went to the next intersection, turned left, followed it to US 23! US 23!!! nooooo!!!!! speed limit's 70 MPH! Damn! went for about five miles because there were no exits for five miles! Finally got back to the rural road that has a 55 MPH speed limit, but the damage has been done.:cry::cry:

Gosh, Batman, thwarted again by infrastructure protocol!! Alas, all that hard work gone to waste!!
Fear not, oh persistent one, you have already kicked the Crippled Snail to the wayside with your most stellar performance!! I'm wallowing in 34.6 (read, 35 EV on Entune). I bow to your superior performance and hereby knight you, Master Crippled Snail!

Are you reading off the log ? Other trips the same day may skew the result.
When my drive to work is my only car use that day I see about 7.5 miles/kWh for my 42 mile drive and a few percent of battery SoC left over if all EV, so it is accurate to within the one decimal place of the display.

I'm under the impression that usable battery is ~ 5.68 kWh*, so 7 miles/kwh should give about 39.76miles of range

*This is calculating backwards from the EPA MPGe, assuming 15% charging losses

The usable portion of the 8.8 kWh battery is about 6.3-6.6 from what I have read here and experienced.

I don't think that is possible, based on EPA measurements:

    25 miles range
    125 MPGe from the wall
33,400 Wh per gallon energy equivalent

    So a mile requires 33,400 Wh/125 = 267.2 Wh from the wall
And 25 miles requires 267.2*25/1000 = 6.68 kWh from the wall

Your usable battery capacity range could only be correct if charge losses were 0 - 5%

I disagree but I will leave that to the experts.

6.3 kWh is what you see on your bill and that includes charging losses. The actual capacity is around 5.5 kWh.
