Any reason to buy anything else but a Model 3?

    I found the Gen III an aesthetic improvement over Gen II from the beginning. I would like to see a 3 in person, but the nearest store is 2 hours away (and I don't believe they have a sample available yet).

    I work down the road from a Tesla facility, so I see them all the time, but I've yet to see a 3.

    Since you work near the facility, my guess is you have probably seen a model 3 on the road, but the model 3 looks so much like the model S it is sometimes difficult to tell the difference if you don't know what design cues to look for. Just drive into the employee parking lot and you will see a bunch of them! While the Prius C looks totally different from a Prius, the Tesla model 3 and S look very similar.

    Well, when they start putting the T on the front, rather than on the frunk lid, maybe then I won't be able to tell the difference.

    On the model 3, Tesla has only two exterior badges, a "T" on the frunk lid and a "T" on the trunk lid, that's it. I will be removing both "T"s for the clean look. Fortunately Tesla uses adhesive to attach exterior badges unlike my Prius where exterior badges are attached by holes in the sheet metal.

    Well by that definition, EV's won before they even started selling 'em because there are about 1 billion charge points in the form of a 120v receptacle in the USA alone (I counted!). <grin> I think you really mean quick charge/fill infrastructure. A gas station can quick-fill my PHEV with about 500+ miles of range in about 5 minutes when I travel.

    Getting better! We EV enthusiasts view this as an awesome accomplishment but J.Q. Public just laughs and :rolleyes:. The revolution is going to take some time.:coffee:

    I concede that under some current circumstances, it is quicker to refill an ICE car. But at what cost? I will fill my model 3 with a full "tank" in zero minutes. I just plug it in every night and wake up to a full charge every morning. Beat that with your PHEV.

    Is J.Q.Public still laughing at the end of the month when they look at their gasoline bill? I have Solar City on my roof and my electricity bill at the end of the month is zero and will continue to be zero even as gasoline prices continue to rise. Nope, the revolution is now. Tesla and the other makers joining the show are going to steamroll ICE over the next 5 to 7 years.

    Then you will easily spot my car because I will use the aero wheels, but with a twist (more on that later, I am the "ModFather.") The aero wheels add ~10% range compared to the 19" Sportwheels. I expect to get over 250 mile range with my SR model 3, 18" aero wheels, and a conservative driving style, honed through years of practice with my PIP.

    You do understand a PHEV plugs in, right? I plug in every day (sometimes multiple times) and drive gas-free nearly everyday. I mainly use gas on the occasional out of town trips only so my consumption has dropped to next to nothing in comparison to both my former HEV's and gassers. I would need a 100kWh pack to come close to meeting my business travel needs. That's an incredible amount of money to eliminate a few tanks of gas per year.

    Obviously, you didn't read my avatar, I do know that a PIP plugs in since I drive one. After 6 years of traction battery degradation, I get 8 miles of EV after plugged in for 3 hours on 120. Hardly something for me to get excited about. You can purchase home solar for 10% of the cost of a 100kWh EV. Even eliminating one tank of gasoline a year is a step in the right direction to cleaning up our air quality. After I get my model 3 the Prius will just be used for emergencies until I get my second model 3 or Y and then, depending on the situation, I may just have it crushed.

    the hybrid warranty in Cali (CARB states) is 10 yrs or 150K miles. Shouldn't the car get a new pack - serious degradation being the case?

    Anyone posted getting a triangle of death on these boards? I don't recall seeing that for the Plug-in Prius to this point.

    one person got one very early, they replaced the battery. other than that, nothing, iirc.
