I was told it can only be done by the service department (the sequence I used on my 2006 Prius does not work). So I made an appointment.

Is this something I should expect to pay for?

Dianne told me that they are not allowed to change the seat belt warning. But it is there in the book as a dealer-customized feature, at least the speed related seat belt beep. I had asked ahead of time for the reverse beep to be disabled or reduced to one beep, but it didn't get done in the pre-delivery service. I think I can get them to do it at no charge, given that I had asked for it, and especially when I show them the two rubber plugs I found in the glove box that they were supposed to install in the frame.

Yes, I had mine reduced to the single beep at time of delivery.

My dealer made me sign a release form for the modification, but no charge.

I'm new to Planet Prius... Is the beeping that people want to change inside the cabin for the driver or outside to warn pedestrians that the (otherwise silent) car is backing up?

    Inside the cabin, very annoying.

Now you mentioned it! :) Didn't know that was an option when I picked it up. How long would it take to get it changed?

Waited for the 5000 mile servicing and they did it for free. The only seatbelt beep that ever bothers me is when I have a dog in my passenger seat...stops after a little while though.

    Dianne,

When I pickup my PIP in Rochester, NY, besides the Reverse Beep, what other Dealer-only corrections should I consider?

Also, has anyone figured out how to disable the pedestrian-alert sound ??? (besides KK6PD wire cutters)
As I understand The Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act, it only requires the U.S. DOT to study and establish a motor vehicle safety standard that would set requirements for an alert. It doesn't Require the car to have it, yet. Only that the DOT should study and set requirements.

Dianne, was it made a State or Fed law that all EVs must have an alert or is the study still in prograss?

The proximity warning system is not as loud, intrusive or annoying as I had anticipated. I only hear it when pulling into my garage. It may help blind people, but I doubt someone with normal vision will hear it while talking on a cellphone or listening to music on earplugs.

Oh someone asked about other things to have the dealer shut off/change, I also had them make it so when I use the auto feature the air conditioner doesn't automatically turn on. Maybe I'll have them turn it back on when it starts getting hot, but for now I don't need it turning on automatically.

My dealer said they're not allowed to do it.
