I got the message. VW = Bad! I looked once for one of their newer models 2014~ and it required premium. That same engine was shared throughout a few models. They were both turbocharged. It seems quite a few turbo vehicle require premium. ecoboost Mustange does, ecoboost F150 doesn't but might not get the mpg/hp rating without.

Das Volksvagen is in a neck and neck competition with Toyota as the largest automobile maker in the world, so it's pretty obvious that they're doing something right.
However (comma!!) the best selling vehicle in the US is an F-series Ford, and I wouldn't own one of those either, and for the same reason.
They're great vehicles, and they have their fan-boys but that have very spotty reliability records....most especially das vee-Dubbaya.

Interestingly enough, my beloved company uses Fords for their vehicles for the last year or two and THEIR lack of reliability is staggering.
The little "Hello Kitty" vans that you see zipping around aren't too bad but the F450 sized trucks were expensive and built to stay that way.
In the military, they are what the airdales call Hangar queens.

"Hangar Queen" is not a proud title.

I can only speak anecdotally about VeeDubbayas, but when I was a squid I watched more than one proud TDI owner go through multiple 4-figure repair bills, only to trade their car out in frustration for a more reliable make.
They were really REALLY great cars to drive.
    Not so great to own.

I often landblast Toyota for the way that their dealers treat its victims, but at least their over-priced parts are widely available and there are a lot more Toyota dealers in the US than there are VW shops....if one considers that to be a 'good' thing.

You don't owe Danny any apologies.
He has totally ignored us for about 3 years now......and his "store" looks a lot like a scam.
It appears that even the people who have volunteered to keep PriusChat alive don't know what the hell is going on with him.
    Pathetic. Not sorry.

Did you actually read the manual for that car, or perhaps the label under the gas flap? Premium on the window sticker doesn't necessarily mean that higher octane is required. For a majority models available today, they actually just recommend premium for full performance and better fuel economy.

Sadly, I have the cc that is similarly costing me $$ regularly. Fun and great to drive but too temperamental for my taste.
