    No errors here. Just 1200 to 1500 points every 30-odd hours or so. I suppose I'll never catch the top folders who are running multiple machines, but as near as I can tell I'm earning more points per WU than anyone else on the PriusChat team. The Core 2 Duo iMac is one hot machine. (Literally: the cores are running at 156 and 160 degrees, respectively, as I type this.)

    Toss another fan into the case and lower those temps into the 140F/60C degrees area. You'll increase stability and longevity albeit not by much.

    p.s. Lost another WU even though I'm back to default BIOS settings and no OC'ing on my machine. :angry: :angry: :angry:

    OK, I've 100+k credit. :) :) :)

    As said, I'm slowing down and I'm diverted my folding to another team. I'll still have my c2d machine folding for PC. :p

    BTW, I'm building my next rig. My new MB is Asus P5K Deluxe (in UPS truck). CPU will be a quad core (waiting for price cut on July 22). I have 2 GB of Crucial Ballastix PC8500 on hand. It will have at least 2 @ 400Gb SATA drive and a SATA DVD recorder. Video card is TBD (choices between Nvidia 8800GTS/GTX or ATI X2900HD). Another beast will be awakening soon. :p

    Well Mac's are different than PC's so let me know which model you have and I can look into it. Also pop the top and look inside for grates or vents leading out that have mounting holes or brackets for fans. You can also buy better fans (i.e. higher rpm, larger diameter, or liquid cooling! :D ) I don't know if it is a problem in Mac's but keep cables and wires tucked away and make sure you have good air flow through the case. The other solutions are along these lines . . .

    http://osxdaily.com/2007/04/24/control-the...our-mac-laptop/

    http://www.roadtools.com/

    That's all could find doing a quick search send me model type and options you got when you ordered and I will be easier to figure out a good cooling solution.

    Well I decided to try the SMP for Windows client today. After one false try, I got it set up and running fine. My points may drop off as I get the hang of it, but things look good so far. Has anyone else had any experience with SMPs?

    With a Quad Core CPU, you can run 2 instances of SMP client. Choose to work with more complex WU. For points, your overall points will increased as each WU for SMP will earn more credit. Typical complex WU worth 1523 or 1760 points.

    To run 2 instances of SMP client, extract the smp client to 2 different folder. i.e. c:\smp1 and c:\smp2. Config the SMP client. To config the client, run "fah.exe -configonly". Make sure the Machine ID is set differently. i.e. SMP client 1 have machine id 1 and SMP client 2 have machine id 2. Enable working on Complex WU (allow receipt work assignment and return work result of more than 5mb insize).

    To run the client in optimize setting, run "fah.exe -local -forceasm -advmethods -verbosity 9". Lastly, you will need to assign 2 CPU core for SMP client 1 and the other 2 CPU core for SMP client 2.

    My typical setting look like this (client.cfg) -

    [settings]
    username=yourusername (what is your username?)
    team=52533 (Team Priuschat)
    asknet=no
    bigpackets=yes (assigned with complex WU)
    machineid=1 (or 2)
    local=1

    [http]
    active=no
    host=localhost
    port=8080
    usereg=no

    [core]
    checkpoint=30 (30 mins, client will do a checkpoint every 30 mins)

    [clienttype]
    memory=1024 (if you like to limit the folding client to allocate maximum of 1024mb of memory)
    type=3

    Hope this help. Please do not edit the client.cfg with any editor. To change setting, please run "fah.exe -configonly".

    I have a 20" Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. It's stock, except that it now has 3 GB of memory, the maximum it can address.

    The first link above is for the G4, an entirely different computer. The next is for laptops. The last seems to be unrelated to the Mac.

    Last night it was so warm in the house that the CPU was up around 165 degrees. It was not hot enough to run my air conditioning, though, so I shut off F@H for a few hours.

    I guess I am running the SMP client. I run InCrease, and it takes care of everything. What surprises me as much as the speed at which I've shot up in the point ratings is the high ratio of points to WUs compared to the rest of the PC team.

    However, everyone above me now is so far up that I imagine they're all running several machines, and I probably won't go any higher in the ratings.

    I'll be gone for most of July and August, and the computer will be shut down then.

    Are you running a Q6600 or E6600 on your dell XPS-410? According to the spec of XPS-410, it has a P965 intel chipset based motherboard. I don't think it will support a Quad core CPU.

    E6600 = Conroe, Core 2 Duo - 2 CPU core
    Q6600 = Kentsfield, Core 2 Quad - 4 CPU core

    The XPS-410 is the well kept secret of the Dell line. The 410 is a very solid performer that I bought with an E6600 CPU and 2Gig RAM. I read on their forum that someone had installed a Q6700 in their 410 and it worked great! Others with far more technical knowledge chimed in and said that the 410 is well suited to run a quad core, in fact the mobo and chipset combo was better than the 710's. I do get an error message while booting that "my processor is not supported", but a bios upgrade would probably get rid of that.

    Thank for the great info, clearview22. Dell computer always have limitation on modification such as overclocking CPU, but I'm impressed on XPS 410. :)

    I used to be a Dell fans. Still have my Dimension 8400 and PowerEdge SC420.

    I'm waiting for the price cut on July before I get myself a Quad CPU. B)

    Wow, I just noticed that our last 7 days are pretty close to 100K points which means that we could get to two million in another 2.5 months.

    I was also happy to see that I just hit the 100K milestone myself.
