Some of us know, because we've seen that mpg boost in the first gen Highlander Hybrid. FWD was offered in the US for the first generation in 2006 which had a slightly lower EPA mpg rating than the 4WD-i version.

Nope, unless the EV range is really impressive. The 2016 Volt looks very good now IMO.

Same here. Actually, I decided that my 2010 Prius will (hopefully) be my last car. I hope it lasts another 10 years. It'll be perfect when both my car and I die at the same time of natural causes.

That's both realistic and sad at the same time...

My next car is going to have some kind of plug-in capability. So I'll likely skip the Gen 4 rollout and see what the Gen 2 PiP looks like in terms of specs, price, and most importantly, availability.

If it's not available nationwide, or has horrible EV range (I'd want at least 20 miles) with a high cost, I'm just going to get the Gen 2 Volt, Leaf, or Model 3 instead.

Been eyeing the Gen II Volt, but looks like the after 50 EV miles mpg is still lacking for $33K...plus it's a Chevy. Now if the Gen IV PIP does 50 miles EV and still gets +50 mpg and keeps it under $30K (out the door without the tax game BS)...I just might buy out of state. We shall see.

Since we kept our last car over 16 years, I had that same thought when we bought our 2014. However, at only 68, I'm still in the game if the technology advancements warrant a trade-in. We'll have over 32,000 miles on ours during the first 13 months and assuming we'll still be able to travel by car 10 years from now, I suspect I might have 2 more cars in my future. It is funny though how mortality comes up in my decisions as I get older.

Or you both go at the same time from "unnatural" causes.

I'd most likely buy one of the last 2015's sold at a deep discount.
Or buy a low mileage certified 2014-2015 when they start hitting the dealership next year.
Unless they have a Two Door model with Lexus style interior & a Big Sunroof in 2016.
I'll probably keep the 2010 Prius I have and find a used Lexus HS250h.

I would prefer to wait at least two years after initial release. We were early adopters of the 2010 Prius only to find a lot of infantile problems bedeviled us and others. Also, our 2003 Prius ain't broke so no need to fix it. I'm also put off by the dead silence about the technology in the next Prius. No, I don't want Toyota to become a rumor generator like GM was with the Volt. Just there are some specific technologies that are important but not a hint in the news.
