Heat shield from somewhere along the exhaust. Yes it is necessary.

def looks like some kind of under panel. metal would indicate heat shiel to prevent fire if parked on grass, etc.
my question is, how can a part with so many fasteners fall off?

Closest match I found online was for a Yaris. Similar pattern. Located in front of the fuel tank.

What's with all the RUST on that Yaris??? Do they not put any paint on them? That looks like the underside of a '78 Buick.

Could've sworn it was a portion of the heat shield for the space ship from 1960's TV show "My Favorite Martian"
