Anyone used premium fuel????

    "premium fuel" does not have more energy in it than regular. You will get exactly the same MPG.

    :)It's really sad the number of cars that require premium unleaded. I've been told the Smart car requires it?

    It should get (almost) the same MPG as 87 Octane, just cost more.

    If by Premium you mean higher octane fuel in the C it has no difference. High octane fuels are just more expensive so although your mpg with stay the same each mile will actually cost more. You will find several threads regarding high octane fuel already here. Cheers

    I use 91 and I use it because it does not cost that much more, and it will keep the engine cleaner, they put more detergent in 91 over 87 OCT. I have done this with all my cars.

    Some cars are noted to be able to run on 87 to market the car, but really run better on 91 and Subaru is one of them. I have seen cars that knock and ping on 87 and are suppose to run on 87, switch to 91, the knocking and pinging is cured.

    I thought this was about the Prius c? I never meant to imply hat no car ever built needed Premium.

    I will spend a little more for top tier gas and 91 OCT, its better gas, just like Mobil 1 is better oil.

    :)Fine. Nothing wrong with your logic. Same with changing oil sooner than the manufacturers recommended schedule. As a former military guy, I can follow orders, and I'll comply with what the manufacturer recommends.

    If you want better MPG check the Ethanol content level not the octane.

    E10 (or 10% Ethanol) seems to be the standard now but E0 (no Ethanol added) has more energy per gallon of gas hence it delivers better MPG then the 10% stuff. E0 fuel is becoming harder to find but it is still out there.

    Octane refers to the amount of additives added to reduce knocking.

    If you want best MPH stick with E0 fuel. (Might cost a bit more but gives you better bragging rights :rolleyes: )
    If you want best cost / mile use standard 87 Octane E10 fuel.

    Most small Euro cars require premium, 91. The Fiat 500 does as does Mini Cooper S.

    When we go to the track we always refill with 91 octane as a safety measure. We have seen mpg gain of 1 to 2 mpg but we attribute that to less ethanol in the p[remium than regular. Anyway, premum costs more tan its worth.
