Applying cruise controls results in acceleration?

I have a 2010 Prius with around 1500 miles on it. I've noticed a slight surge/acceleration when applying the cruise control. I normally will only engage it while I'm on a flat or slight downhill and am already at a constant speed and pedal location. When I press "set," the car does a small surge, slight but you can feel it, and then settles into cruising. I keep the pedal steady and have never experienced this in other cars. I'd expect this if I let off on the pedal as I hit the "set" but I am careful to keep it there for a smooth transition.

    Thanks.

Hi mtnbkr. I've noticed this on every car with cruise I've ever had. That initial "surge". I've always chalked it up to the car setting it's pace. I know my 2004 does the same thing. In my opinion, there's nothing odd about the Prius doing it.

If you feel that your car does it above and beyond that of other cars then i would certainly try to drive another Prius of the same model and package for a comparison.
