Filled up today with my best tank ever, MPG-wise: 66.8 MPG (calculated), 621 miles.

Here's an interesting shot of the MFD with what happened between the fillup and home:

bah.. I was at 4.1L/100km and 200kms into the tank. My bro came to pick me up, hit a traffic jam, left the heater running and decided to EV up the hill. The result? a drained battery and a serious dent to mileage (4.3L/100km) when he picked me up. >.<

The usual commute home that's the mileage booster didn't cure it. It still read 4.3...

What did you do to get 66 MPG? Just got my new prius and only get 53 MPG -- and I live in Florida (warm), driving on flat land.

Hello, Nicole. Welcome to PriusChat and Prius-dom!

As for the fuel mileage, 53 MPG is very respectable. Assuming you're looking for more, I suggest you read this PriusChat thread, including the link in the first post for Evan Fusco's article. Next, read this CleanMPG article. It goes more into depth on driving techniques that many of us use to optimize fuel mileage.

Then apply the techniques. It will take practice and patience. I've had my car for over a year, but it's been only recently that I feel I've even begun to master some of the techniques of "hypermiling."

You have the advantage of a warm climate, so you should never see the fuel mileage hit that many of us take in the winter. On the flip side, AC use also causes a hit, at least on short trips at slow speeds. At highway speeds, AC should be fine, and some suggest that keeping the windows closed at highway speeds improves the aerodynamics enough to offset any decrease in mileage caused by AC.

Flat terrain is great for applying a driving technique called "pulse and glide" (described in the articles), assuming traffic allows. As for me, I've made route modifications to increase P&G opportunities. The best routes for P&G are where you can drive 40 MPH or less, light traffic, and few stop signs or red lights.

If you can tell us about your normal driving conditions (distance, traffic, speeds, etc.), we can offer additional and more specific advice.

    Good luck!

It is snowing again today and it has been a rough winter here in Colorado.
so I am pleased with my latest tank: 524 mi. 7.78 gallons and 67.35 mpg actual.
burr. At least I am not seeing a constant yellow snowflake on my 04 Prius display!
