    Northwest passage anyone?

Seriously, I know the ice has cleared enough for more than Atlantic-Pacific trip. What I don't know are the water depths of the route(s) or if it can even be predicted.

Even having a seasonal, Northwest passage might turn out to be economically useful.

It can be predicted, and the depths are not enough yet. We also know Exxon is investing fairly heavily to harvest the methane clathrates, and I think other oil companies are as well.
