I've went through the manuals for the Gen 4 and Prime lol. The Gen 3 is my daily driver. It took a while to go through the manuals and I probably still need to read them again if/when I get the Prime.

It is odd behavior, but not quite as far as requiring to shift into drive. In my '16 Four Touring, you can't get into the Vehicle Customization menu unless the car is in READY. (Shift can be in park.)

The confusing part comes if you try to get there before the car is READY. If the car is in Accessory mode, the Vehicle "app" inside the settings screen is disabled, so you can't get to the Customizations menu button. Putting the car in IG-ON immediately makes the Vehicle app accessible, but the Customizations menu button is still disabled. At this point you can go to full READY mode but the button is still disabled.

If you go into the options/setup menu BEFORE the car is in READY then you have to go all the way out to the audio or home screen, make sure the car is READY, and come back into setup. Then it will enable the Vehicle Customizations button.

    Software. Whatcha gonna do?

That explains why, when I needed to go into vehicle customization for something the other day, it was greyed out...

The car was in Ready mode.
I wonder if Ready just means ready to drive. The radio unit may have not totally finished booting even though the starting warning screen had appeared.

Yes, the system is very slow to finish booting up, mine takes about 30 seconds after the ready light before the greyed out features light up.

My headlights turn off in 30 seconds, after the Power button is pressed off. (The shortest amount of time available in the settings.) I've never left my headlights on, but it's a nice feature.

Getting back to the LEDs being too bright? I still think they are just right. Best headlights I've ever had. And I agree with Dragon Rider, I wish the DRL's were separate from the headlights.

Now days, I am the guy doing the flashing... at every ignorant Prius driver that's driving in the dark or rain with no headlights on! This morning is a dark, gloomy, rainy day, and I am looking out my front windows and see many Prii's going down the street with no headlights or DRL's.

I guess they are trying to save .0000000000984 gallons of gas. :ROFLMAO:

The shortest setting is actually "Off" as long as you do jnot sit in your car for more than 30 seconds. In the "Off" setting, the lights turn off as soon as the driver's door is opened.

HUH??? Can Toyota possibly make all this stuff more confusing??!

I turn everything off before I open the door or exit the car. It's very simple, really. I don't need any of that "auto"'crap. I'm going back to my 1978 Oldsmobile cutlass!

My first car was a 1967 Cutlass. I got rid of it when it got 200 miles to the quart of oil
Gas mileage was horrible on that 330 CI 4 BBL engine. Press the accelerator & watch the gas gauge go down.

Mine ran beautifully. Never used oil and got pretty good gas mileage for a six cylinder. I bought it used from a nurse, and she took excellent care of it. Only reason I sold it, is because all the thugs and gang members tend to drive those old cutlasses. I bought a nice Honda accord.

No not too bright. It's similar scenario to when xenon lights first appeared on motor vehicles in the late 90s and early 2000s. Most of them drivers also got flashed as well. Then eventually people got used to it .

There are thousands of cars on the road now with LED headlights. Mine included. I do not get flashed. OP may have a problem with the alignment of his headlights being aimed too high.

We have already had a few 2016 users that had that problem. I have not heard of that problem from 2017 user, though. There was some improvement in glare to get better ratings for the 2017 Prius.

The euro spec LED lights I believe are even better. The USA ones use fresnel projectors I believe.

But is it legal to drive with them in the US?

Well, the UK spec heads are auto leveling, but we drive on the left side of the road and the beams kick up to the right - not acceptable in USA! The mainland of Europe do drive on the right side  but whether they self level or differ from yours, I'm afraid I don't know.

I'm starting to like our setup more an' more, lol. With our 2010 Canadian Touring, looks like this:

In Spain (where we only have one finish), they are self-levelling.

I have a 2016 Four, assembled in June 2016, and have never been flashed at night by so many cars coming in the other direction. I will ask the dealer to look at it and adjust if necessary when I'm in for my 5k check.

Last night in my 2017 Two was the first time I had a few people flash at me. The road as very up & down, so the headlights were probably hitting them too high since the US headlights are not self leveling.
