It doesn't look like there are turn signals in the mirrors, but can someone confirm? Also, do the mirrors power-fold? The specs say something like "folding feature," but I'm not sure if this means they can automatically fold in when you lock the car, for example.

Why is it so hard for Toyota to add these features?

idk, but toyotas strategy has always been to hold off some amenities in lower priced models to try to get people into higher priced models

Are some of these available from the Japanese Domestic Market, as they were on previous generations? Some of these were imported to the U.S. by specialty sources.

I really doubt they'd have auto-folding mirrors. My 2 cents: it's for the best, just one more failure prone, next to useless "feature".

For sure. I'm opting for the base model LE just because it has the fewest electronics features that could go bad. And because it also has the highest MPG.

At 9:24. You can see the turn signal in Japan market.

I wouldn't use the Japanese market for that. They've had it for Gen 4 but we never got it. Even Gen 3, it was offered as a dealer-installed accessory (As well as power folding).

Right. I just want to show that the Japanese market has it but we don't. Not sure if we can retrofit it.

Auto-folding mirrors are popular in up-trim models in Asia because they have much tighter parking spaces.

They are excluded from US market cars because we've got the biggest parking spaces of anywhere, and automakers need to pinch pennies somewhere.

I've seen some enthusiasts transplant the housings from a JDM car, figure out how to wire them up, and then get new mirror inserts made up for them. So it's been done, though I can't tell you how easy it might be on a Prius.
